There was a time not long ago that kids played a game for the enjoyment of the game. Kids went to a certain school and had pride in that school.
I have always loved college baseball and hated the MLB. Seeing people getting paid that won't even hustle to first on a ground ball or a pop up. Everything leading up to that taught you that if you didn't hustle your arse was grass. To make it to the top and forget how to hustle, what got you there, always bothered me.
Now kids see excelling at a sport as a payday, which means it's a job. NIL and the portal may already be ruining sports for fans, but in the long term they are ruining sports for kids, see travel ball.

And a college football player that’s not only on scholarship but is also getting paid being able to transfer every 6 months is ridiculous. The NIL is one thing, but the transfer portal is the beginning of the end of what college football once was, unless some common sense rises up over TV deals and gambling.

I still think the NCAA changed all of this to benefit the players, but the coaches are now forcing these kids to transfer so they can upgrade. That sucks.
