I thought these people were intelligent.

When I was in college, I had a huge project due and basically worked my tail off for three straight weekends to get it ready to present.

My friend, the education major, compared what I did to the bulletin board she had to design with construction paper and cut out letters.

Those are the people that become teachers. And teachers become principals. And principals become administrators. Their intelligence stems that they figured out how to make the most money for the smallest amount of work.

You’d think you could dust off your hurricane contingency plans and start there. I’m guessing we don’t have that either.

2) Choose education, make 50-55K right out of school, and 60K in 10 years.

Teachers get paid pretty well right out of school, but long-term, sucks. T

The money is in going and getting a 30-hour Masters degree and becoming an administrator.

The principal of a 1A-4A school in Mississippi starts at $85,000. 5A and 6A principals make over $100k. You have a decent amount of work and bullshite, but the pay is good.

Then if you can get into central office as an administrator, you get to make six figures without the work and BS.

Private schools won’t miss a beat.

For what it's worth, I think a lot of private schools are feeling pressure to open because the parents are questioning tuition costs. If you have to basically homeschool your kids anyway, why bother paying tuition? Public school is free, and the bullshite they're peddling on Google Classroom is the same thing private schools are.

No plans. No preparations.

My public school system has plenty of plans and preparations. I just don't like them.

They are setting up full time for k-6, A-B days for 7-12. That puts 75% of the kids in school on any given M-Th. Makes no sense to me.

Is there an actual term for "doing something just for the sake of doing something"?

What took you so long?

The public school system is a money pit and day prison for kids. We need a new model.

This couldn't be more wrong. Our parish has been paying teachers $25 an hour all summer to build the virtual program.
They finished up last week

I think if my school would have been harsh and made me stay in high school for another year (I was way way beyond what was acceptable for absences), maybe I'd have a better understanding of what it means to stay committed to things.

I don't think people are generally outright incompetent, but I do think that this extends way beyond the scope of what our school systems are capable. Bureaucracy and politics have made it impossible for our institutions come together and show leadership during pivotal moments.

Like this woman not having a plan, much less ANY guidance for the school systems?
