Since you're posting on the OT, I'd assume you're a baller to some degree. What level? How much do you plan on paying for a sofa? Here's why I'm asking.

My wife is an interior designer. This is a second marriage for both of us (been together 10 years), but I didn't "grow up" in this industry with her. I had no clue what interior designers did to make their money. One of the things they do is sell custom furniture, such that folks in need of furniture come in, go throw these hundreds of fabric books (or have her do that for them after they've giving her some parameters), pick a fabric, and then tell her I want "this fabric" on a sofa with "this shape", etc.

I had no clue how that worked, and honestly, custom stuff like that (depending on where you go to get it) can actually be pretty affordable, especially if you're comparing the price to higher end "already made" stuff.

Pretty sure she has two lines. One's pretty expensive - it's probably considered like the bottom end of the really nice stuff. The other - she just picked up, and if you're in Baton Rouge, I THINK she learned about this company from something she saw in a Baton Rouge shop - is probably considered lower middle (when it comes to custom stuff), but according to her, it's really underpriced/a great buy for the money.

Anyway, being a baller and all, just know you don't have to walk into a shop, and take what they got.

Those are all good brands, not sure what the OP is wanting to spend though.

I second everything you said. I do mostly custom in my home now, and the interior design fee plus the cost of furniture is more affordable than you'd think. Especially if you are buying high end furniture anyway. And the designer does most of the work for you, you end up with exactly what you want, and you get a cohesive final product without being "matchy matchy"

2400 square foot 3 BR house. Living room furniture and one bedroom already furnished. Just looking for paint and furnish the rest of the house (Master, office, guest BR, wall decor, etc). What's a designer going to run? I know overall cost depends on the stuff you choose, but how much more to have a designer do it?
