So by "gonna" get screwed, you mean it didn't happen but you think it will and you are already posting about it.

Used car values are inflated so based on the market you'll get a fair price so go buy a similar vehicle and STFU.

Or, perhaps don't be an equine's posterior. I would not be surprised if insurance compensation for totaled vehicles doesn't equal the going rate for comparable used vehicles, market be danged.

Ask them to show you how they valued your truck.

frickers tried to give me 33k on my stolen truck.
I got them up to 42k. Because, they weren't accounting for lots of options.

Your replacement cost should be based on market prices of vehicles.

No, I just went thru it a couple of years ago and the insurance company drug their feet for almost a year and that included medical costs. I had to end up getting a lawyer and they paid everything within a week.

First thing out of their mouth was “blue book value”. Market value and book value are much different.

Crazy part is, it’s drivable. Crushed the tail gate into the bed and bent it up. Says the whole bed had to be replaced and are hard to get. It’s a Ford. Why would it be hard to find a part for an American made vehicle? Because the parts are made overseas!

My former supervisor hit someone from behind in a company vehicle. No one was hurt, minor damage to both vehicles, the other party had a kid in a car seat in the rear.

We paid out $210K to her. This was probably 12 years ago.

If the vehicle is new, they'll use "blue book value." If the vehicle is old, they'll use "market value"

I was rear ended and totaled my wife's 2009 Camry with 110k miles on it a few years ago. Having a 12 year old car with less than 10k miles a year on it it was hard to find a comparable. They evaluated my car as average condition, which I guess I can understand being a 12 year old car, even though I never missed an oil change or maintenance on it and had receipts for everything (just the way I am). Then they compared it to a 10 year old Camry with 260k miles on it at a roadside lot in Metairie and tried to tell me that one was in excellent condition and said it was like "a little old lady drove it to church." Maybe if her church was in Florida and she went twice a week. Started off $3k under blue book, which wasn't much to begin with. Ended up within $700 after a month of fighting and getting tired of dealing with them.
frick AllState, good hands my arse.

The insurance commissioner really needs to do something about this and make them all use the same system. I don't blame anyone for lawyering up in this state, it's worth it just to save the stress from having to deal with the insurance companies.

Just curious, if your truck has low mileage and replacing it with a similar one will be "astronomical" then why would the insurance not give you anything for it?

My ex wife's younger brother got in a pretty bad wreck on the Mississippi River Bridge, or whatever it's called. He ended up with $80k. He told his parents the insurance only paid his car off because he owed them like $8k or something like that and didn't want to pay them back

Priced vehicles lately? If they give me fair market value and not blue book it might be ok.

Tort reform is the answer. Not “stop filing lawsuits”

drop that jury threshold to 10k and you’ll see a lot less frivolous suits. Until then, it is what it is.

Get an independent adjuster (if you can find one) to give you a valuation. Also do your own. No reason why you can’t establish a higher value for your vehicle in a broader geographical area than the Kelly or NADA books. The insurance company can’t tell you that you can’t buy a vehicle online from Oregon or Wyoming.

Take vehicles like yours with like features, mileage, etc and compare them to what they are trying to tell you it is worth. The more vehicles the better. Average values of a lot of cars are better than only a few. Wear them out with emails demanding a higher valuation or that they fix your vehicle. Be polite but persistently aggressive.
They will lowball, misrepresent, and threaten you. Be hard nose back.

They have to pay you fair market price for totaling, right? Not 2018 market prices.

Same happened to me in October. Bought my truck in July. What I got back covered the truck and a little bit of pocket change. Pretty much lost everything i put down on it though. Whole situation sucks.
