That's all of Europe. Not expected but you'll get a thanks.

Only Japan takes offense to being tipped. Don't tip your server in Japan

Went to the NEX today (for the crayon eaters in the thread, that's the same thing as an MCX) and was greeted to a tipping window at the checkout. The fricking convenience store clerks, paid for by the government, are asking for tips to do absolutely nothing but scan items.

If you were mad at the server, you were mad at the wrong person. He is simply following the business model his boss put in place and is using the equipment he was told to use.
Businesses are knowingly under paying their help, and then asking the help to beg from you to make a living wage.

Had lunch at Chauvan's today. I had shrimp tacos with a nice salad. Ate the shrimp tacos and didn't touch the salad. Left a ten dollar tip. I had to leave the table early with my grandson. Wife got a couple of doggy bags. Everything was put in carry outs except my salad that I was looking forward to eating for supper. Most of the time things like this roll off my back, this one detoured into my craw, and its still there.

More bullshite.
The people at Subway and Starbucks are not making less than minimum wage.

Starbucks Corporation pays its employees an average of $12.34 an hour. Hourly pay at Starbucks Corporation ranges from an average of $9.46 to $18.01 an hour

Average Subway Cashier hourly pay in Texas is approximately $9.14.

So most restaurants won't bag a tossed salad because they won't last more than an hour or two after being tossed. If it was SoS then maybe take home. But this is actually Normal.

He paid for the salad. They have no right to make that decision for him.

More bullshite, Jr.
1)minimum wage for tipped employees in Louisiana is $2.13 an hour.
2) if you think $9-12 an hour is a living wage, you’re either crazy or living in 1965.

Who says that a job at Subway should pay a "living wage"?

Wouldn’t blame them if they did except the American Dollar, it’s with about as much as a peso!

You might be less concerned about tipping if you had paid more attention in skool.

Does tipping percentage go down on a few hundred dollar bill, bottle of wine, etc.?

You're really a moron.
We aren't talking about tipping servers that make $2.13 an hour in a restaurant.

We are talking about people who work in fast food, basically making $9-12 and hour, expecting tips for a job that doesn't deserve tips.

this is what they get from the restaurant - if they don’t make enough tips to make minimum wage ($7.25) per hour, the restaurant has to pay them the additional $5 an hour - I’m not saying $7.25 is a living wage, I’m just saying no one is making $2.13 an hour

Nah, we're talking about them too. Restaurant owners aren't forced to pay minimum wage. They want the consumer to subsidize their profit on top of paying for the product. We've been bamboozled and shamed into believing we're misers if we protest.

A lot of the hate is misguided here, the system is broken, the person making $2 or $9 or $15 an hour isn't to blame. Some of these people can't do any better and that is why they are in these jobs. I'd much rather support someone trying to make a buck than sitting at home because at $9-$12 an hour and even $15+ an hour part time you can make more money off of government benefits than working.

Should the tip option be there at these places? I don't think so.
Should businesses pay more? I believe they should. I started people at $15 a decade ago, if they were good I paid them more, if they were not worth $15 an hour I got rid of them.

About 14 years ago, I took my wife and my 6 month old go Chili's. Our bill was $25. I paid with my card and left a $5 tip in the server book. The waiter thanked us and as we're gathering all our stuff, I look over and he pulls out the $5 tip I gave him and rolls his eyes.

I'd like to say that I walked on over and snatched the $5 back but I didn't.

Quite a few times I've noticed on my bank account that they didn't include the tip....? Say, I tip $10 on a 30$ meal (like today), I see on my bank account they only take out $30. Why?

Thank you GRT, I will survive.
