I'm done with tipping.
How did the USA evolve into this system that is pretty hard to find elsewhere on the planet?
We were just at a hotel that only had valet parking. $20/day to park, and if you are like us, you might go on 1 or 2 excursions during the day, so you have to tip a gofer to fetch your vehicle that you could easily have gotten yourself. You might be out $30/day just to park your damn car. It makes it hard to tip a buck for a $12 Miller Lite at the hotel bar.
This X 10

I’ve had an espresso/drip machine I paid about 250 for and it’s been 4-5 years. Make a latte every morning. Doesn’t take long and costs maybe 25 cents a cup and tastes pretty close to these stupid priced drinks people pay for every day. If you can take time to wait in line you can take time to make it yourself.

This, and you don't have to deal with the automatic request for a tip.
But further, the idea of carrying cash so you can tip the same exact amount you do if you used a credit card really just doesn't make sense.

It is beyond ridiculous with tipping now, if you're busting arse keeping my drinks filled and making sure everything is going fine while I am out to eat then yes you deserve a great tip. If you're just pulling the handle on a tap to give me a Nitro Cold Brew then not so much.
I’m a firm believer in truth in tipping. As long as my server checks on my group regularly, is friendly and responsive to our needs, and keeps the drinks topped off, they’re going to get anywhere from 20-30% tip. If they give sub-par service, the tip will likewise be sub-par. And if the service is bad enough, I will leave exactly zero tip.
One thing I don’t do though is base my tip on the food. The server can’t control when the food is ready or if the food is good or not. That’s out of their control so I do not let that factor in the tip I leave.

Employers should pay their employees enough
All we have to do is figure out who in government figures out what "enough" means.

If waitresses were hot and wore skimpy clothes they’d get better tips
Hell, they might get more than just the tip.

I don’t mind tipping at a traditional restaurant. I’m not paying you for handing me a bag that the kitchen boxed up for takeout.

Why? Because I'm reading what you've written?
Because you take everything literally.
You can't understand context. You thought my response of "frick you" to a handheld credit card reader displaying tipping percentages must be a literal verbal "frick you" to the employee.
That's a sign of a mental disability such as autism.

Restaurants are the worst value ever these days.
Completely agree. The cost per plate has gone up so much, and the service has gone to shite (not in all places, but many).
Fast food has reached the price where you might as well just go to a Mexican restaurant or something. When I stop at Wendy's I always tend to get a Spicy Chicken combo. It was $7.25 forever. It's now $10.26. I know because it pisses me off when stores don't just round for change making convenience.

But he knows he should. Just don't go and at least not force everyone to deal with himself

I didn't take that one literally. I simply used it as an example of something else that you may have said when you told us that you didn't actually say what you told us you say.
So what do you say? Are you going to tell us? Or, can you just admit that you don't really say anything?

Nobody said anything verbal. Your autistic brain is stuck on the literal meaning of the word "say".

The thing a lot of people don't know about the Squares and similar card swiping apps is the business customizes the default tip percentages that it shows when it asks for a tip. Most places the lowest tip will be 10-15%, but I've been to several where the lowest they show is 20%. Screw that, when all you did was hand me my order.
Posted on 2/21/23 at 4:06 pm to Smeg
Right, you don't actually say anything. But it burns you up inside that you can't muster the courage to do so. That, combined with the guilt of not tipping and your extreme narcissism compelled you to come to the OT to bitch about it.
You're carrying a lot of anger over what probably amounted to $2. The misplaced virtue signaling over being a cheapskate is really just entertainment for most of us.

I aint tipping no way 99% of the time. Im not calling in food and going to pick it up and you shove an option for a tip in my face. Im not going to sit inside and have you bring me my food, only for me to have to wave you down everytime i need a refill or condiment, and you bring my receipt asking for a tip. F all that
