I’m done and ready to say something highly controversial

Labs are completely overrated as dogs. Generally overweight (more of an owners issue), unnecessarily large, fur shedding mush bags, eat a small fortune monthly, uncoordinated…I don’t hate them, but they are mid tier dogs, not elite level dogs. People that swoon over labs are weird.

There does seem to be a lot of fat and smelly labs. Then plenty of awesome ones though.

Never understood the lab love. Multiple better hunting dogs that are either more compact or have less problems.
And many many better family dogs.
The shedding and smell on labs knock them down plenty of tiers.

Dog breeds are varied, people that own them are varied.
I don't think there is a better dog breed on Earth than Rhodesian Ridgebacks with Basset hounds in second. They are quite different in most respects but I dearly love both breeds. The majority of people wouldn't agree with me on either. Labs and Goldens for example have such a following because they are great family dogs and for people that like big dogs they both tend to be very safe around kids and new people.
There is a reason that there are Fords and Chevrolets but I agree with you I am not a fan of Labs, I don't dislike them at all they just aren't for me.

When they were healthy, definitely top tier.
I love a scot/johnson cross American Bulldog.
Less health issues with the good qualities of each.
