shite our 2500 Sq ft feels empty now with just 3 of us. We've talked about building our last house in 3 years or so and we decided about 1700-1800 Sq ft would be fine for empty nesters.

We thought it might be too big for us when we got it, but we each like to have our space.

We use every room, pretty much, with the exception of one guest room. That said, we know we're selling in a few years when the kid graduates HS.

Our house is 3700 heated and cooled for just me and the wife but we have been living in the guest house while we remodel. The guest house is 1300 sf and it has been just fine for us. A few hundred more sq ft would be more than enough.

So you have about the same living sq ft as I do. Its a ton of space but you have kids so I could see the need for it.

Household income or individual income?

We sleep in the same bedroom and I work at home mostly. So a small bedroom for an office and a guest bedroom. 3/2 1750 Sq ft seems about right for us in a few years. We want some land though

Yea I think everyone thinks this until they get it. We are just outside the city limits on an acre and sometimes I think I would like another acre or two but then I think about having to maintain that as I get older and change my mind.

A private school isn't just about academics. Never give the govt an opportunity to groom your single greatest asset.

I was mostly raised on 38 acres. I'd just clear a small area for the "yard"

I sold a 3-acre lot I was going to build on. It was all cleared and the only way I was going to keep it that way was if I bought one of these

104" wide cut at 11MPH. It can cut 40 acres in 8 hours they claim

My house is only 2100 sq ft, but it has a decked out 3 car garage that's really basically another room, and an 800 sq foot basement. I live alone, but when people are over I can just disappear and not see anyone if I don't want to. I typically spend most of my time either on my back deck - which is so private I don't even know I have neighbors - or in my garage anyway. I seriously wouldn't want the maintenance on a 4000 sq ft home.

What's the living?

My 2600 sqft is nothing but living. No garage, no lanai, no veranda.

If we are talking income after tax, 401k, etc. No.

Gross, yes. But that'd be my MAX mortgage and it would have the be a property I know I'll be at for the rest of my life.

Funny how times have changed. The house we lived in when I was a kid was 1500'ish/sq ft for a family of 5.

Our first house was 1400 for 4.
