Sounds like you’re on a rut. Same ole, same ole.

You need to renew your excitement for life and living. Take your family fishing. Take your wife dancing (date her again). Invite your friends over for a cookout.

Knock this shite out now or you will find yourself in trouble and destroying your life.

Went thru something similar around that age (57 now). I went from playing a lot of golf, long afternoons that turned into late nights, and larger parties to concentrating on work more. At the time, it seemed like a bigger deal than it actually was. Life slowed down more, two kids were now self sufficient, wife and myself were both concentrating more on career as we moved up in income, and we started having dinner with close friends as opposed to larger gatherings.

I did the same thing with fishing as you are doing. It took a few months, but I eventually got heavy into mornings/evenings on the water by myself or with my Dad as opposed to 6 hour golf rounds/gambling/drinking at the club with a dozen guys. At the end of the day, I was just maturing but it took me about a year of feeling out of sorts about the change in lifestyle.

Best advice I can give you, do NOT become sedentary. I put more weight on in my 40's than I ever thought possible. I'm still battling it and its a bitch in your mid 50's when every joint and shred of cartilage in your body is telling you to go to hell. If you rely on running, find another means of cardio as I found its hard as hell to keep it up.

EDIT
And if you think your 30's flew by, you are going to wake up tomorrow at 48 and wonder what the hell happened. Looking back, it was some great years, I just wished I had lived in the moment more.

Its not a bad thing. Its a trend that continues, which allows you to focus on the things you love.

Everything sucks now

Even with fishing they keep lowering the limit even though you’re lucky if you catch 2 fish because they let the Chinese pogey boats kill all the good fish

Trump needs to expand America to some cool places that still have good fishing but clear out the locals first

Go on carnivore or carnivore adjacent diet. Quit processed foods. If you do eat fruits and veggies, get organic. If you can’t do that, at least look up the dirty dozen and avoid that produce.

Also quit the seed oils. They cause inflammation and cognitive issues. Our bodies didn’t evolve to eat industrial oils. Didn’t even exist until a few decades ago.

Should be a good start

Kids/wife are still super important and taken care of.

Things that I lost interest in:
Sports (used to rule weekends with game on drink/cooking)
Cooking (see above)
Dancing/Going Out
Bought a bunch of gear to start fishing, never even went yet.
No motivation or get up and go.

Is this a normal thing? Everything just seems so routine now and just heading down a boring path.

I know 95% of Adulting is work, bills wash repeat, but starting to get old.

After the kids are gone its gets a whole lot better.

The key is to ensure that they can adult on their own without having to live at home with mom and dad.

If they can't deal with life without relying on you, then you are fooked.

Same happened to me, but it started at 38. I have found, if I eat shite foods and don't move my body (sweating through cardio, lifting weights) I feel like crap. I force myself to do it. If I even take a week off, I can feel myself slipping into that same feeling, don't want to do shite, don't feel good, etc. You have to keep going with it.

I’m 38 and don’t watch any NBA outside of my team. The sport I loved most was CFB, but I’m just not too excited about watching a popularity contest played by mercenaries that make way more playing a game than I will sniff in my lifetime. MLB resembles what I loved as a kid, but again…seeing pampered $750 mil athletes play like shite in the field isn’t really how I wanna spend my free time. I’m old and cranky.

Thanks for typing up my reply to the OP for me.

you getting a physical with full bloodwork done every year? if not, start there...hit the gym...buy a smart watch and track your steps (try to get 10,000 a day)...set attainable goals...and eat better/less and drink less...do any of these apply?

How old are your kids. That’s pretty typical when they’re young and you’re still highly involved in raising them. Once they start driving and hanging out with their friends more than you, you’ll find you have more time for your hobbies. At least that’s how it’s been for me.

As others have mentioned, get your test levels checked.

Just curious, do you have an identity as something other than what you do for work? Obviously you're a dad/husband and thats important as shite. Once you've stated those, what are you? I have buddies who pretty much identify as what they do for a living and they end up hitting a similar wall. You gotta find something other than what you do for a living unless you straight up enjoy the sh*t out of your job.

Great point. I say that as someone who lacks an identity. I could be erased from the world, and my parents and 9-month old will miss me. Can’t think of many others.
