she has done little to actually give back to the hip-hop community except be flagrantly offensive

many people in the hip-hop community feel that Azalea is actively working against black interests because she appropriates traditionally black styles and totally divorces them from their political content

accusing Azalea of ignoring racism in her home country as well as in America.

She's taken hip-hop's sounds, but hasn't given back to the culture in any meaningful way when many white rappers have done the opposite

I don't really give a shite about IA at all, but this actually makes me want to like her a little bit. frick every single person those quotes are talking about. It's fricking refreshing for a celebrity to want to stay out of the political spotlight for a fricking change...I guess these idiots think the masses actually give a single frick about what they think about Ferguson or some other bullshite (though, I guess sadly, some do actually care).

And surely the complete irony of their accusations of racism against her almost solely because she is white goes straight over every one of their fricking heads.

Idiots.

She's about as hip hop as Gwen Stefani.

welcome to 2nd gangsta rap era, which is the late 90s. they're a little late here

quote:

thanking her for speaking openly and passionately about the issue of cultural appropriation.

oh man don't get me started. the constantly shifting standards on how we can discuss culture in the urban community

quote:

Azalea has been manipulating hip-hop culture for her own gain, and she cares not at all for the broader hip-hop community or the music's place in our culture. She's taken hip-hop's sounds, but hasn't given back to the culture in any meaningful way when many white rappers have done the opposite. Macklemore has showed support for Ferguson protesters. Action Bronson passed judgment on the Eric Garner ruling, calling it "disgusting."

holy fricking shite

let them rot

90's hip hop was actually fun music to an extent as well. Dance parties, having fun, etc. It changed when gangsta rap came to exist.

I guess rappers never sampled music by a white artist.

And when did being a hip hop artist mean you have to serve the black community and their struggles?

If you look back to when hip-hop started, the early stars, came from tough environments, so it was typically natural to be down with the struggle. That is what their songs were based on. These days not everyone came from a tough environment, but the assumption of giving back is still there.

I still remember Dr. Dre being called out in an article for giving money to USCw. (for some kind of academy or whatever) and not to a HBCU.

I'm positive I've heard a song or 2 of hers before but I couldn't tell you which one it was. But i completely agree, this makes me want her to be even more successful and to do even less for the hip hop community.

Another random thought that I can't prove and am not interested enough to try and do so...

I'm guessing her main fanbased is that 14-30 year old white, suburban girls, which would further make this even more ridiculous.

Would I be close?

It's not merely that.

It's they don't like a white, Australian woman being at the top of the food chain. If she were mid-level, no one would care. If she were at the top and black and never supported the cause, no one would care or say anything.

She doesn't owe black people, white people or the hip hop culture or anyone, for that matter, anything...and that's ok.

Always loved these lyrics from Eminem's Without Me:

No I'm not the first king of controversy
I am the worst thing since Elvis Presley
To do black music so selfishly
And used it to get myself wealthy

so why is a white Australian born singer being expected to contribute to black people?

So in order to give back, you have to support the protestors?
