Is the value of your stuff continually getting stolen worth more to you than the fee to break your lease? I'd be more willing to pay the fee and get the hell out.

Yeah, I have a buddy's German Shepherd Doberman mix standing century for the time being while I'm away, but my apartment doesn't allow pets.

I'm just subletting from the lease-holder, my roommate- so the cost of me leaving would just be one month of rent that I put down as a deposit with him. Guess I'm asking for him because we'd most likely want to move elsewhere together if we did move.
I actually haven't had anything of value stolen other than some loose cash (under $20) and a box fan. My roommate had some knick-knacks taken but they left valuable stuff like laptops and credit cards untouched. Strangely our fridge was unplugged as well. It seems like a personal thing, because they just came in and totally trashed the apartment but didn't seem to take anything very valuable.
This is the first time it's happened since I moved in, but the same thing had happened a couple of months before I moved in.
This is right off Burbank across from the shopping center/mellow mushroom, so it's not exactly the hood btw. My roommate is beyond suspicion fwiw; he's an uber-nerd Italian student. The feeling of unrest about it is enough to make me consider moving though.

How can they correct the problem? Aside from new locks, which will still be broken into.
