Hey guy, your assumption that I don't have a gun is wholly unfounded and the suggestion is really just not useful in my situation.
Oh, well when you say something like this
quote:
That would have been so useful when my apartment was being ransacked while I was at work; would have just had a stolen gun on top of everything else if I left it there.
it insinuates that you don't own a gun because if you did already have a gun, it would have been stolen.
And
quote:
If your apartment is repeatedly broken into over a short period of time
then your life is in danger now. The problem isn't that people are breaking into your apartment, the problem is that you are in danger. Unless you care more about your shite than you do about your life?

Drill a bunch of screws through 12"x12" pieces of plywood. Place them screw side up and cover them with bed sheets or thin towels in a place where it would be believable that there would be bedclothes or towels on the floor. At night, cover the boards with dark Hefty bags.
Sounds like kids to me.

I actually haven't had anything of value stolen other than some loose cash (under $20) and a box fan. My roommate had some knick-knacks taken but they left valuable stuff like laptops and credit cards untouched. Strangely our fridge was unplugged as well. It seems like a personal thing, because they just came in and totally trashed the apartment but didn't seem to take anything very valuable.
WTF? That's sketchy as hell.

Right. Only it doesn't insinuate that- at all. You are talking down to me like the only place to keep one's gun is in one's home, where it can be stolen... You realize a gun is for self-protection? How can it serve that function if it is at one location and you are in a totally different location?

Again with the uninformed assumptions. My life would be in medium danger and the intruder's in far greater danger if I were to be in the apartment at the time of an attempted break in, that I can tell you.

It seemed like they were looking for something because everything was on the floor and all shelves/drawers had been emptied emptied/cleared off. Our mattresses were overturned too We don't have drugs in the house, and only a handful of people ever even come over. Wouldn't be surprised if some crackhead confused my unit with one of his homeboys' places or something and thought he was about to score.
The fridge thing is very puzzling though and makes me consider a mischievous person with a vendetta of some kind against one of us- unplugging a man's fridge in the middle of a b-n-e is just confusing as hell.

How can they correct the problem? Aside from new locks, which will still be broken into.

Nerds commit crimes too.

This really sounds like an inside job. An "inside Italian Job". Did you do anything to piss your Italian roommate off recently? I mean TPOS are known to be in the area, however they're more willing to go after big ticket items like TV's, electronics, ect ect....
The events you mentioned in the aforethought, point more towards someone trying to send a message to you, especially the refrigerator ordeal.
If anything, go and get yourself a gun. It'll help you against the TPOS in the area, and you may have to cap your Italian roommate if he decides you didn't get his messages and decides one night to forcefully try and PIIYB.

Nah, we're good buddies, go out every weekend and stir up hell and all that. He's getting his MBA at LSU and is a stone-cold logic and hilarious unintentional racism machine so not really a suspect in my view. He's also a lot more upset about it than I am because he's the one with the most to lose from being burgled.
There's one character in our complex who gets fricked up on pills, booze, and weed all the time and ends up lurking around outside in a dazed state from time to time. If you've seen Trailer Park Boys, think Lahey levels of getting shitty. I have a theory that he may have done it in one of his "states" because it definitely looked like the work of someone in a frenzied, crazed state. I told the officer as much and he interviewed him and told us when (if) a detective looks into it he'll be contacting said character as well.

The BRPD says a lot of things and follows through on jack shite. I wouldn't hold any weight on what the BRPD says, they are hands down one of the worst excuses for a law enforcement agency in this country.
The cops aren't going to help you. You need a gun. When I left LSU there was never a day that went by I wasn't strapped. Just always be aware TPOS are always watching you and your movements.

Look into Frontpoint Security - a wireless system that works with cell phone technology I believe.

I would buy a Black Russian Terrier and name him Igor. Then, I would tell my apartment complex that I'm not paying the pet deposit because they won't do shite about people breaking into my apartment.

You might want to consider getting new friends.

They are not responsibly for your security or safety, and I'm sure your lease states that.
What are security cameras going to do? Nothing.
