We’re in milton area and I’d highly recommend it. Great school zone too.

In New Iberia's defense, the crime has gone down a lot since they got their own Police Dept back on the streets.

However, just like Lafayette, if they don't stop depending on the Oilfield, it's not going to improve or get better.

I would say Broussard too but the schools have sucked since they rezoned.

Anyone I have spoked to about schools have only said Broussard Middle is the one to avoid. That Katherine Drexel is a good school. I don't know if that other elementary school has opened up on Fairfield. But it looks nice.

Within reasonable driving distance of what?

Also, depending on your frame of reference, everything is within "reasonable" distance. If you come from Houston, Lafayette will seem small and quick to get around. If you come from Bunkie, then probably less so.

Lets all agree that there is no reasonable driving distance when driving into Lafayette. I mean into as in the business areas not on hwy 90. Any road that is considered a shortcut, is bumper to bumper.

That's why I love where I live in Broussard, because I have a 5 minute drive to work (off 90) and easy access to 90 to get to New Iberia to bring my kids to school.

If it's high performing public schools you want, Erath is probably the place you want to be. There are a lot of very Cajun locals, but they're not bad folks, of course I'm from a pretty Cajun family including some Erathians.

Youngsville is not bad at all if you want Lafayette parish.

I currently live in the city of Lafayette near Prairie Elementary. Near where I grew up, it was between Lafayette and Scott back then. Not a bad middle income area but my younger kids went to a private school.

Where will you be working?

We need to know:

1) Where will your job be at.
2) How old are the kids.
3) Can you afford private school (see # 2)

I live on the fringes of River Ranch area and traffic is only a slight problem during "rush hours" . Maybe a 5-10 minute delay here and there. Given I have lived in Baton Rouge, NOLA and Houston...its really a nothing burger.

Update: my work location would be Broussard but I would like to be within striking distance of Lafayette when I feel like heading in there.

I would prioritize being closer to work over being closer to Lafayette.

I'll some it up for you. South of Johnston, east of ambassador, west of University, north of verot. That's pretty rough but it's basically the good areas.
