CarMax, because I bought at least 4 cars there, two of which now have over 150k miles. But I also bought 2 great cars from a mechanic shop I use & another great used car from an Audi dealership here in Houston.

Honda

My personal experience has been that their quality control has seen a steep drop lately. Wife and I had a 2019 odyssey. We had a new postcard every month with a recall it seemed. Transmission went out this time last year. Replaced it 2 months before it got totaled after some trashy fricker with no insurance rear ended my wife with our two month old in the back seat(both fine). Replaced it with a Sienna.

Toyota is Toyota. Speaks for itself.

Decided to pull the trigger with my SO on a used car from Carvana this evening after viewing this thread. The buying “process” was awesome, and the car is scheduled to be delivered straight to my house Thursday, so we’ll so how it goes. Can’t imagine buying a car any other way now.

I recently purchased a 2020 Mustang Ecoboost with the High Performance Package and the Handling Package and only 4200 miles. Also came with a Cobb tuner. It's sticker was $46k and the dealer sold to me for $36k, so you can still find deals at a dealer.

Not a big fan of the Ecoboost. Lots of reports of issues. Hopefully yours doesn’t end up at the shop more than the road.

From what I can tell, Carmax sells cars in almost perfect, brand new condition. Very few dents/dings, new tires, etc. the ones they get in trade that don’t meet their standards get wholesaled. Higher priced, yes, but you’re getting a good quality car

That wasn’t my experience last month. Two cars reeked of smoke. Many had multiple accidents on the Carfax. And the prices weren’t great.

They offered $1000 for my POS trade in. Local Honda dealership offered $2500.

To OP: I had a good experience with a local dealer, and I liked getting a certified warranty.

Private should always be your first choice so long as you don’t need special financing and are willing to deal with getting the title from the seller’s bank.

Carvana deals largely in fleet vehicles, rentals, and off-lease vehicles.
This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but a truck that has lived in Michigan for 2 winters will possibly have early rust issues with nuts & bolts.

Thanks for replies fellas. I’m finding a lot of deals in the Houston area. Just looking for something relatively low miles in the 15-22ish K range 2015 or newer model . Prob gonna pull outta savings to pay cash and just pay myself back. Really leaning toward a Camry. She also likes Kia Forte for some reason. Carvana has about a 100 damn fortes.

I went to a dealership recently and got the shaft so frick them crooks.

Long story short I ended up with a bunch of extra stuff I didn't need, warranty (maybe a good idea), tire plan, windshield plan etc etc

I was switching my insurance and had my kid with me while going over the financing (my fault) and got the okie dok.

I called back to cancel some of it and the finance guy refused to answer the phone, then after my 10th call he did but hung up on me.

freaking weasels

Took my time looking for a Tacoma and after 3 months found one in Jeanerette which is 2 hrs from me. 2019, one owner, 19,000 miles for 30,000. It was at a dealership. Could not pass it up

On our second Pilot 2016 and now a 2019 and both have had issues. First one felt like the tranny started slipping. Second one now feels like it’s having the same issue.

On the first we changed the windshield out and all of the sensors went crazy also. Going back to Yota next when the new Sequioa comes out.

Oh also :teamoneofus:

I went the Carmax route, too. For $200, they’ll ship you any car from any location and give you 72 hours to make up your mind in the vehicle.

Read up on Kia's engine troubles before pulling the trigger. Camrys are a known good quantity.
