I'm on board with you. I'm born and raised in rural Louisiana, thought it was god's gift to earth. Went to LSU and ULL. Then spent some time in Texas but am back in Louisiana for the current moment. I am just waiting for my moment to get back out of this state. Louisiana culture is great, and I'll carry it with me forever, especially in my cookbook, but this state lacks so much it is pathetic.

We have a good bit in common.
Interesting how people who have actually LEFT this state understand just how much better the world is out there.
As soon as my wife's elder in the family dies off, we are gone back to Texas!

I lived in DC and Atlanta for 15 years. Came back to Baton Rouge to raise my family.
Zachary and other suburbs have great schools, but we use the private schools in BR. They're all pretty awesome from what I can tell.

I was born and raised in rural Louisiana and I thought it sucked, but to say that cookie cutter Texas has more culture than Louisiana is laughable.
Louisiana obviously has its flaws, but a lack of culture is not one of them.

I wouldn't move back at least right now. I think given Louisiana's current leadership and economic climate, it's a couple of years into what could be a decade-long tail spin. It's sad to see.
If I were moving back, I'd go to Baton Rouge or Lafayette.

I definitely know people like that, but that isn't who I am at all. I did actually go to Destin this past weekend, but that was far from my only vacation this year and I don't think it's the best place in the world.

No one said or has likely ever said that Louisiana has a lack of culture.
Also, Texas is far less cookie cutter than you apparently know. Sure: Houston, Austin, San Antonio, & DFW are all shining examples of cookie cutter. But that's the testament to the growth & strong economy. Still PLENTY of culture in the big cities (just gotta know where to look) & all throughout south, central, east, & west texas.

So you went visit your uncle and aunt one time in Katy and you automatically think the rest of the state is like that? Keeping up with the small mindedness I see

McKinney is is under the same fate. Since named #1 place to live in the entire country home prices have skyrocketed and and so has the influx of transplants from North and West coast.

My uncle lives in DFW, not Katy
But no, I've been to Austin (twice), Houston, Dallas, and Fort Worth all in the last two years. They aren't bad cities and there are great job opportunities out there, but they are all cookie cutter.

I travel America for work, I've been everywhere. I promise I've lived in more places than you. You've quite obviously a TX native.
Louisiana has truly the best people I've encountered anywhere. I was away from 1996 until 2013 and moved back. I don't care if your cookie-cutter town has clearer shopping centers, Louisiana is the greatest state in America because it's soulful and real. It's enriching.
I been everywhere: beautiful small towns in New Hampshire were great but boring. Montana is stunning but it's 2 hours to the next city. Southern Cali makes me want to poke my eyes out. Houston is literally the armpit of America.
I'll debate anyone here who fails to realize the gem that is this state.

In some aspects sure but so is Louisiana. Louisiana has their on type of cookie cutter homes and chain restaurants and stores.
