both.
The views from a train are awesome.
I would love to take a train to California by way of Colorado.

For the right amount of money, yes you could.

why the frick would you want to spend $1M on a train car when you could own a plane for that and get where you're going much faster?
It's not about how fast you can get from point A to point B. Having a private Pullman car is about HOW you get from point A to point B.
Travel in a private Pullman car can be contracted with the railroads, whether attached to a freight train or at the end of a Amtrak. Occasionally I've seen private cars at the end of end of an Amtrak train.
I also recall an article years ago about Tom Clancy spending a few days stranded in a freight yard (Denver I think) when he rented a Pullman for a family vacation.

This seems absurdly expensive for not that much benefit.
Each car is $400k+++, not including the $2.60/mile or storage costs.

You can hire Amtrak to pull it. Info on their website.

Seems like I remember seeing on some show that you can legally hobo up to the back of any Amtrak train in America for free
Sure if they don't catch you, just have to be fast.

Thank you.
A lot of times all I want on vacation is quiet and a book to read.
I like long flights and trains for that.

Let me know when you head to jack browns and I will join you for a seaplane rating.

Was wondering if one could afford it, can you just pay UP or CN to haul you around?
I used to work with a guy that had a Pullman and some freight cars, flatcars, he would just hire "tag on" space from the railroad, similar to how you can hire empty space in a moving van that happens to be going in the area that you need something moved to.

Without sending me to another site, can someone answer how you'd store a private car and get it to the rail to link to Amtrak?
Is the answer that you have to store it at an authorized train yard that is already attached to the main rail?

A friend in New Orleans was talking to another friend and he mentioned what a hassle it was packing the car for a family vacation. She responded that she just had their Butler load up the family Pullman car and they were ready to go.
My friend reported being unable to suppress the sigh of envy.

Most private cars are very luxurious.
If you rent one for a group, most come with stewards and/or cooks.
You see some great off the highway scenery:

there's actually a scheduled train, not Amtrak, but a nice, well rated rr that does this, can't recall the name but I've a friends that have taken it and really enjoyed it, probably easy to google

I'd turn it into another Cock-a-boose and party like a rock star.

Amtrak doesn't own any lines afaik..tis why they have to let the other freights pass before continuing on
Posted on 5/9/17 at 6:32 pm to Fewer Kilometers
good question.
I wonder if they can get it as long as it's adjacent to their route. Maybe you have to get a tow from another engine to the Amtrack station.

So if you have two pullman cars and you are the second to last, do you have to let the people in the last car through your car to get to the bar car?

I'm in the own a huge yacht camp.
Go anchor out in the open ocean away from the jurisdiction of any nation and party however and whenever. Hookers and blow flown in from all around the globe with zero worries of an arrest of any kind. Any of them OD just kick the corpse overboard and keep on hooking and getting blown.
