Just makes you think. If we had pre-life and after-life...seems like we’d have something to show of it.

Makes no sense that we would all go to some imaginary place, but before we were born it was just black with no consciousness.

It's strange to think that as I sit here typing I may simply cease to exist anymore.

I like to think I’d be the same person. I try to be as generous as I can be and I truly wish everyone could be happy, especially the sad of the world, because the world. I’m not as good as I’d like to be in either scenario and I can be Dickson, but I’d like to believe I’d be the same

You are overthinking it to fit your agenda.

Wrong, you’re coping with the fear of your own mortality. Keep thinking about your imaginary city in the clouds.

It won’t make one bit of difference when your body is worm food.

I had those thoughts as young as 13 and they say childhood ends the moment you realize your own mortality, so that kind of sucked.

I have found a belief system that makes room for the possibility of an afterlife and a deity, and I basically don’t let it dictate my life’s decisions but lean on Pascal’s wager in some sense. If there is an afterlife I want to make sure my accounts are are good as they can be before I kick the bucket

Well let me say this.
If I am right to believe that there is a Heaven and a Hell then I am a winner regardless. If I die and go to Heaven then I have overcome the world and if I die and there is nothing then I didn’t lose anything so no fear on my part. On the other hand, if I am right then the eternity that you and non believers will be the worst thing imaginable. I pray that the fear would be yours.

So basically, you’re just hedging your bets.

No I believe, my point was that if there isn’t a Heaven or Hell then I don’t lose anything in believing to begin with.

That's the worst reasoning of faith I have ever heard. Try to think on your own and live life just to be a good human being instead of a fear of modern day Greek Mythology.

Never understood this sentiment. If there truly is an omnipotent creator he will know better than anyone the doubt and insecurities we as humans face in putting our belief in something that has no tangible evidence. If a God won't accept one of his own creations who lived a just and kind life solely on the basis of his doubt in god then that is no god of mine.

Lots of people who believe in God are shitty. Lots of people who don't believe in God are good. My belief or non belief in an afterlife has nothing to do with how I live my life.

Who is saying anything about a "pre-life"? I'm not a theologian but isn't the basic Judeo Christian teaching that only God has existed forever and that humans are created ex nihilo?

Golden Rule works for me. I am fairly agnostic nowadays, with intelligent design leanings, but the thought that there isn't a hell waiting for the evil shits in this world gives me a sad.

Truer words have never been spoken. This always comes to mind when people say that the lack of morality among younger people or in the world today in general has to do with the absence of God in schools.

I always think, man if it takes the thought of someone looking over your shoulder to be a good person or to do the right thing, you are a shitty person.

You can't teach a person, even a young person, to be a good person. All you can teach them is restraint to not act on their every emotion and how to conform to civilized society.

Nah, a lot of the good things we do are done for inner peace. A lot of people don’t realize that. Irrespective of the afterlife, you’re not living a good life for the benefit of other people. You’re doing it for you. Even if that’s not your intent.

I believe this as well. Everything we do is done out of selfishness whether we realize is or not. Even those who are or were seen as the most righteous, acted to serve their own best interests.

In the end, we all do what we need to do to cope and survive in this world.
