That makes sense. It's like going to Bourbon Street and thinking that's what people from New Orleans are like

People that like to complain about how shitty and smelly Nola is and especially around the quarter and bourbon, I don't think people realize that tourists are the biggest perpetrators of this and keep it up. Southern baptists and Yankees come here to party, get shitfaced, shite and piss everywhere and then complain about it when they get back home.

How bout an OT checklist of things to do, eat, see etc in New York. Part of the problem when we went was being overwhelmed with options. And I didn't have the funds to do everything I wanted to at the time. We enjoyed it, but not to the point I'd call it the best city in America. However, I would imagine the experience I'd have now would be quit different. Planning on going New Year's next year so any recommendations would be appreciated.

Also, if you're single and relatively young, there isn't a better place in America. My Lord.

I have no interest in going to NYC whatsoever.

I've actually sent my wife on 3 seperate trips with her family and friends bc I didn't want to go.

I may one day but, right now it's not appealing to me.

Now, I love New York, but to deny that it is super-expensive is just flat out stupid. Manhattan is by far the most expensive place in the US.

Don't go during the big tourist times, except for once between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It is stunning and worth it once.

Go to off Broadway shows, go to Queens and Brooklyn for great food. My advice is go to the US Open tennis tournament. It is a great event and not too crowded in the city.

What makes it great for young and single people? I've heard the same said about NOLA but I didn't find it to be that great a place if you're young and single.

That was another thing none of us knew where to go to and all of us had to stick together. I'm sure I'd enjoy it more now that I'm no longer active duty army. I did love the West Point campus and the town of highland falls.

I've been to NYC 3 times. Enjoyed it for a visit, but I would not want to live there. Personally, I think San Francisco and Chicago have more redeeming qualities than NYC. To each his own though.

I also have no interest in taking my kids to Disney World. If they wanna go, their mother and grandparents can take them.

I'm taking them skiing after Mardi Gras. That's the trade off.

TBH, I have not found it to be super expensive. Most place we have been are comprable to BR. Granted, we have been walking and stepping into local spots.

It is great. The entire place is in the swing and beautiful. It is my favorite place. I'm biased though. Lived there for a bit and been back a few times.

It's the greatest magnet in the country for young and educated people. You don't see very many people who don't take care of their bodies. People tend to get into serious relationships and get married a little later in life after they've established themselves.

You can go out and meet a dozen beautiful women every single night if you're so inclined. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting one. And they are, shall we say, morally casual.
