Yep, it's wildflower and king salmon season, the rest of the salmon will be active in a few weeks. Fireweed and lupine are spectacular, and the mountains are plunging into the sea.

I get solice from nature, my mom passed away yesterday and I went on a brief hike, soothes the soul.

And the glaciers..

You in Louisiana? or literally anywhere in the U.S. outside the direct blast zone? Have fun slowly suffocating and not seeing the sun.

Provo/SLC Utah is a big city with a lot of opportunities. You could easily buy into a good neighborhood there and have no problems finding jobs. From there the mountains are very accessible, much more so than from Denver. It’s a similar setup, though it’s about 15 years behind Denver in terms of development.

If you want a smaller town in that area you could try Heber City or Kamas, Utah.

I took a camping trip up to Stanley last summer and it was amazing! It would be nice if I could just have a summer home anywhere in those three states or Colorado.

Sorry to hear about your mom, but I know what you mean. Before moving here I would always visit my parents for dinner on Sunday evenings and me and my dad would end up watching shows filmed in Alaska. When I had an opportunity to come up here for a short stint he was more excited about it than I was. He passed away Christmas 2018 and I took the job up here the following Feb. My mom is terrified of flying, so it's pretty unrealistic she will ever visit. My fiance also passed years ago, so being here away from everything has helped.

Southeast Arkansas. We made the decision to pull her off the machines yesterday when I was walking the trail in that picture.

I'm flying into Shreveport and driving up for her memorial on the 18th. Amazing woman. It's really an emotional ride.

I liked big cities when I was younger but living in urban Houston or Atlanta at this point is pretty unappealing to me.

Yeah, this is about my mentality as well. We've been in Boise, and while it is very lively with a great downtown, we go out less and less. We still go out, and we do say how much we enjoy being so close to everything, but in a month we are moving to the outskirts of the valley to get away from college aged kids.

OP, Boise is fantastic, but if I was looking for a small place to be left alone, Boise is not it unless you have a lot of money. Many people believe Boise is a small town with a low price point because Californians built it up to be that way. We will be in one of the nicer apartments with pretty consistently high ratings in the valley and we will pay around $1400 a month, and that's 10 miles from the downtown center. You wanna be close to downtown in a nice apt, you're looking at $1900-$2400 for a 2 BR. We are currently a mile away from downtown in a pretty run down place we rent for $1100. If you want to buy on anything more than half an acre in town you're looking at million dollar houses at that point.

I have driven home (cenla) a few times now, and I really get the appeal of Laramie, WY. Not booming, but there is a school and what looks to be local pride. Cheyenne is close, the interstate is close, and you have Denver 2 hours south if you're into any music/entertainment venues. There are national forests within driving distances and there is a regional airport that can connect you to bigger airports.

Also there are some really depressing small towns in Utah close to many mountains that would keep you extremely secluded if that's what you're into. Not to be rude, but many of them lack basic luxuries, but most people who want to get away from it all don't want that.

No, but I have been to the 4800 block of Gus Young Avenue and the 2300 block of Plank Road more than I care to count.

I refuse to believe it's any thing close to that bad.

Let me have this dream man. I need to believe that their is something better out there than inner city Baton Rouge.

I drove through there last year and stopped by the student book store (I was trying to get a mug and a T-shirt from every university I could driving cross country. I was looking for a Wyoming Baseball Tshirt, but couldn't find one. I was finally told they didn't have a baseball team. Other than that, it did seem like a neat school.

I moved from Boise to BR. Go and never look back. SLC and the burbs there are good options depending on the situation.

If you want a Southwest vibe check out Flagstaff.

The one thing that makes me really question buying a house in the Boise area is that from what I read homeowners can have their real estate taxes automatically raised 3% a year, which is ludicrous, and has a very minimal exemption level. License to steal by the government. Are you familiar with this?

You will like Northern Wyoming..around the Buffalo area. Nice quaint town with lots of history (Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid - Hole in the Wall gang). People are very friendly and the housing prices are reasonable. Golf course, snow sports, great hunting and the sunrises and sunsets are unbelievable. It rests at the intersection of interstates 25 and 90, so you have quick access to which ever direction you would like to travel to.

I worked all around Wyoming for several years and yes it is a bit far between places at times. Just depends what you are looking for come retirement age.
