One of my favorite Netflix series ever is Narcos, and really ever since then I've been really interested in the Cocaine trade especially in the era of Pablo Escobar and the Rodriguez Brothers.
Pablo Escobar may have done terrible things but he was a genius and did a lot for the people of Columbia, I think a lot of things he did that hurt people was purely because he had his back against the wall and he saw no way out.
Living the lifestyle that they did has to be one of the best things ever experienced on Earth, they owned Columbia. Anything they wanted they got, anyone they wanted they got, it's honestly incredible. They made more money than they could spend in 10 lifetimes. Of course it all went to shite once the DEA got involved but that comes with the territory.
I sure as hell wouldn't want to be in a drug cartel in present time but in the 1980's and 1990's, shite I would probably give it hard consideration. Just imagine growing up in a fairly poor country such as Columbia and coming from a poor family. Then you become one of the most powerful men not only in Columbia but in the world. What Pablo Escobar and the Rodriguez brothers accomplished is one of the most incredible feats in Business history.
It has been rumored that Escobar was making roughly $420 Million a week, when you break it down that is $60 Million a day, $2.5 Million an hour, $41,666 a minute, $694 a second. All that totaling roughly $22 Billion a year in PROFIT, Escobar was responsible for 80% of the entire world's cocaine supply. He smuggled nearly 15 Tons of Cocaine into the United States daily, thats roughy 30,000 Pounds of Cocaine...daily. Of that $22 Billion, Escobar would write off 10%, so he was giving away or throwing away roughly $2.1 Billion yearly.
If I had grown up the way they did, you better believe I would have given it my best shot, to live like that while it was good? Hell yes.
The Medellín and Cali Cartel were more powerful than some of the biggest organizations in the world, it's hard to wrap your mind around the fact that a few poor kids from Columbia grew up to be some of the richest and most powerful men in the world.
I think being a Business Major is why I am so amazed by the way they ran their enterprises, I mean its just incredible how complex and intericate their business models were. You may not agree with what they did or how they did it but if you can't appreciate a true genius and a masterpiece in the business world, then I don't know what to tell you.
Sorry for the big pictures, I don't know how to reduce them

A foreman on a project I was running a few years back told me his uncle was the head of a cartel in Mexico. He said the man had all the money in the world but his life was basically contained within the walls of his compound 98% of the time. That doesn't sound like much fun to me.
Granted there is probably a 90% chance he made this all up but still.

Too many rules, and most CIA agents never get field action, a lot of sitting behind a desk.

Scoop dirt into ziploc bags for the rest of your life or be a cartel boss. Not a hard choice.
