People are 'loyal' to their local or favourite King Cakes, since I travel the state and have literally had just about all of them, I'll give you the best keep secret down here.

As someone who grew up in the Nola area and lives in Lafayette I'd rank them:

1a. Randazzo's - Easily the best I've had
1b. Meche's - Freaking delicious, but more donut than king cake.
2. Haydel's - Can't remember the king cake but the Cajun Kringle is goooood.
3. Rouses - They actually do make a good king cake.

Note: Never had Sucre

Randazzos.

If you don't want to stand in line for Manny, go check out the family stores on the north shore or Chalmette - Nonna Randazzo

I send several each year to the east coast. Pick them up and go to Office Depot, get boxes there, and mail them 2 day UPS. Make sure the fill the shipping box with peanuts.

Heck of a lot cheaper than having the bakery ship them.

I assume I'm the only one who thinks king cakes in general are overhyped?

When is the last time you had one? I've put all three next to each other and they are virtually the same. Manny's might be a tiny bit better, but not nearly worth standing in line for.
