i'm going to see where ETH goes in a week or 2. i only put down $500

it's funny b/c Coinbase upped my transaction limit to $10k and i was like..."should i gamble my entire poker roll on this or not?"

tbh, one of our friends has been a huge computer nerd forever and knew about bitcoin and other currencies at the startup because of his online friends he always talked to. he was in the beginning mining them with these ridiculous rigs because he thought it was 'the way of the future'. this sort of trickled down into others. it helped that they had a good amount of disposable income through other means. so it wasnt that big of a deal for them to drop 10 to 20k and just hope it hits.

in the past 2 to 3 years it has really picked up though.

something like ethereum they still say its a great buy because of how young it is and the potential involved.

the $500 that chip is worth is affected by regular inflation. $500 in 1980 is a lot different than $500 in 2017. same concept

yeah but you're comparing an item with a stated, stable face amount vs one that has nothing of the sort

If I bought a $500 chip in 1990 and brought it back today, they'd give me $500 cash

Bitcoin, not so much

if you link your bank account, the limit per week goes up substantially.

i think the limit last week on a debit card was $500/week.

no if i buy $500 worth of BTC right now it's the same as a $500 poker chip. we're translating the value to USD, and that USD translation will change over time for BOTH symbolic items of value

and yeah it's not perfect, but, again, i use it as an example of currency and no investing

So is this Coinbase safe to use real information? I remember back in the starts of Bitcoin, people used prepaid cards and such. Is it so regulated that most likely no one would get my banking info?

I don't know much about economics. Would cryptocurrencies rise in value if the dollar is doing badly?

I had a buddy who was trying to convince me to set up a mining rig around this time last year. I thought hard about it, but the yields/return were looking tight and I wasn't sure if he was actually getting a return. Should have done it.
