Instagram is great. Girls put up pictures in bikinis for likes and you don't have to read the bullshite that comes along with Facebook.

I use IG only to post
1) travel pictures when I go places
2) legit announcements (via pictures) - someone had a baby, we moved, my dad retired, whatever
3) Dog pictures
*Most* people I follow do the same, which is nice. I want to see it when you have a kid, or when your kid turns 1, etc. I want to see it when you travel to South America, or Charleston, or NYC. Just anything interesting. Renovating your bathroom? Ok, I'll look at that for 3 seconds.
What I don't want is a picture of your food from Chilis, or "OMG yall let me be for real for real with you about life with a 2 year old" shite all the time.

For me, FB is just for my real friends and family.
Instagram is where I follow random accounts that I just enjoy the content, whether it be memes, celebrity, person of interest, brand I support, etc.

I've used it to help build a small music business.
I post videos of me playing guitar and a few short instructional videos every now and then. Take some photos. Just now getting into the "Stories" feature.
I've sold 50 albums through Instagram connections and picked up 5 Skype lessons ($150/month each).
If I'd put more effort into it, I could make more.
I know some people with 10k+ followers and even a few with 50k+ followers. They get all kinds of free shite. Like all of the time. All they have to do is post stories and videos of them using and discussing the products.

Part of the issue is the age of the technology.
I'm friends with people from my hometown on FB because it's older. A lot of them never left. On twitter and IG, it's mostly college, grad, professional life friends.
Huge gulf between the stuff each contingent likes to post about.
