Not sure of that answer. But the mccloskeys were definitely arrested in the United States for legally exercising their 2nd amendment rights on their own private property.
And these people being shot with beanbags for being outside on their own private property were definitely in the United States as well.

$60K a year? How much OT are you figuring into that? The base for most isn't anywhere near that.

That depends on the department. I worked for a department that expected professionals and weeded out the ones that were not.
For as much as yall like to claim this being true, the silence from “the good ones” sure is deafening whenever it comes to ostracizing a cop that fricks up, whether in the line of duty or not.
I’ll never forget cops defending the off-duty Dallas cop that killed the guy in his own apartment last year while she was trespassing in it.

Free meals and drinks at restaurants?
Being able to park wherever you want?
Never having to obey traffic laws?
Being able to treat people like shite just for the hell of it, with no consequences?

But two instances of frickery doesn't mean the entire group is sour, no?
I mean, with just a little effort I bet could find a few cases of doctors who have run afoul of the law. So what? All doctors are pieces of shite?
I understand that some people are frustrated, but you can't roll all cops into one big pile. It doesn't make any sense.

I have got almost 16 years on the job. I joined within weeks of graduating from LSU. This is the only thing I have ever done or intended to do for life's work.
The past 4-5 years in Baton Rouge have been rough. Between the protest, ambushes, identity politics from leadership, failure to increase pay, and constant increase in violence due to failed local policies, I have watched countless good Cops leave the job. Most look like me.
I am still holding out hope that the politics shift and we get the support we need to do the tough work we know is necessary.

I'm in the private sector now, but friends and coworkers ask me if I would go back all the time.
I'm a little on the old side, but that notwithstanding I'd do it all again in an instant if I were 22 again. It's just something that lives inside you that a lot of people can't understand.

Generally speaking I am pretty pro cop, but some of the shite cops use to get away or still get away with is pretty fricking ridiculous.
The issue is the sheer number of idiotic laws we have here in this country. We have lawyers run for office, create more laws that require more lawyers.
Cops are on the lookout for any small reason to pull you over to get a look at you and your vehicle. This needs to be ended.
The job would be safer, and more lucrative if we went after criminals and stopped creating more criminals.

If you’re on BRPD I have a couple questions:
1. Did you know Chris Kuhn?
2. How big of an asshat is Murphy Paul?

quote:Someone brought this up the other day. I can't speak for every department, but I worked for two large metro departments.
Cops are basically the baws who were good at sports in high school, but dumb as hell, and too dumb to hack it in the oil rig(and that takes a very special kind of stupid)
Very, very few recruits were accepted without at least some college. Those with degrees were hired on at a higher rate than those without, and there were ceilings that you could not promote beyond without an advanced degree.
So not all departments are run like podunk, backwood agencies. Several (or mine, anyway) were proud of their product. Unfortunately not all locales see things the same way.

You start at like 60k here. The troopers are hiring laterally and start at around 70k.
I applied in 1996 and there were over 200 others testing. Today, JPD or the AST can't find enough qualified people to apply.

Sure, if you wanted to be stupid and pretend like it’s just 2 instances.

When doctors break the law, do they get punished for it? Or does their profession shield them from negative consequences?

The poster you were originally responding to said “I’m just doing my job” is not an excuse when you’re enforcing unconstitutional laws, and provided a picture of that happening. You questioned if that picture was from the United States. I gave 2 quick, recent examples that were definitely in the United States. The point being, it most definitely is happening here.
What part don’t you understand exactly?

I fully support you. That’s why I think you should quit.
No one should have to put up with the attack by the media and elected officials.
This will all get sorted out when people are begging the cops to come back when crime soars like we have never seen before.

Most cops I know have a college degree. Doesn't mean much today, but they certainly aren't uneducated.
