How quickly would we have defeated them?

A year? 3 years? Before they developed their own nuclear weapons?

Probably would have taken a couple years, but the U.S. would have pulled it out. Remember, Russia didn't have the A-bomb at the time. It took them a few years to steal the plans and build their own.

In very short order. They were decimated and most of their ammo, supplies, food, other aid, etc were being supplied by the US. Cut the supply off, quick strike to sever any help from reaching Berlin. Surround their forces there and root them out, then proceed forward. Patton wasn’t a fool, he believed it would be super quick so I’ll go with his opinion.

I tend to agree with this… what I’m not sure of is just how much serviceable equipment they had remaining after taking Berlin and Prague and I’m sure their factories were back to running at a decent capacity.

I’m also not certain that we would have dropped an A bomb on them unless absolutely necessary; however, Stalin knew that the world had changed once we dropped the first two.

The plans were already stolen… they knew all about the bomb early in the process.

He is talking about 1945, NATO was formed in 1949. If you gonna be a post whore at least say something useful or nothing at all.

WWII, a war we were dragged into, was our chance to literally rule the world. We did the right thing at the time, and stopped at the end of the objective. In hindsight, should have taken world domination. It was there for the taking. Now we've let our communist enemies overtake us.

25 Million Soviets died in the war. We lost 400K. Stalin would've had no problem running that number up. I don't think the US population as a whole had any interest in a European war once Hitler and Germany were eliminated.

If you are just asking about pushing them out of Germany and Austria, that would've been within a year, but the ensuing cold war would've been a LOT hotter.

About one year. We would have routed their raggedy asses.

Yeah but they didn't build their first functioning prototype until 1949 and didn't do their first air-drop test until '51.

Even with the plans, it's still an engineering challenge. Then you have to factor in all the testing that needs to be done before you can begin mass production.

Agreed. I have no doubt that we would have defeated them prior to the A bomb coming into play for them.

What would that have looked like? As of V-E day (May 8th, 1945), attacking the Japenese mainland was still plan "A" for the USA, which required redirection of the US troops in Europe.

So does France, England, Liberated parts of West Europe, and what's left of the German regular Army/Navy (Now under Allied command) take up arms againt the Soviets until the US joins in a little later after the Japan sitiuation is resolved?

Also, over/under how many atomic bombs would have been dropped? After the success of the first two, I don't think the US would have hesitated dropping them as quick as they can make them in the world of 1945/1946/1947.

We would've been drug into a shitty war. We would've been pushed back few hundred miles. After recovery, the supplies we gave them during the lend lease act would've dried up, we would recover.

Russia hasn't lost a defensive land war in over a thousand years (The Golden Horde).
