But were it come to war in Europe our navy would be tied down keeping the shipping lanes between the U.S. and Europe open and escorting the massive convoys it would take to move a sufficient ground force to counter the Russians move into eastern and central Europe.

I know we've had a huge draw down of the forces in Europe but have we also removed our prepositioned rolling stock and ammunition?

You don't know who your friends are until you're all 3/4s of the way through bottles of bourbon and you're three hours in to a game of Risk that's tied.

Plane for plane, tank for tank, soldier for soldier, the US still leads Russia in quality. But to think their stuff is junk is plain ignorant. And the problem is they've got a shite load of it in Europe and we don't. What part of that don't you understand?

W. budgeted 4.7 trillion dollars for the Dept of Defense during his eight years in office.

President Barack Obama has budgeted and spent 5.3 trillion dollars in just seven.

Plus that doesn't include budget increases for Homeland Security which is considered a separate department from Defense.

So no.

But thanks for letting all of us know how uninformed you are.

We need to pull most of our troops out of Europe and put them on our southern border where a threat actually exists.

MADAGASCAR was always one of my favorites to conquer for some odd reason before I was 8 years old.

Here is what I understand, their equipment and munitions are low quality, I've seen their stuff in Lebanon and Iraq. It's shite.

The personnel that operate and maintain that equipment are the same, not well trained or motivated and drunk every chance they get.

Could they push through an undefended frontier? Maybe, then they get slaughtered, which is something the Russian army Is familiar with.

What you've seen in Lebanon and Iraq are export versions of their stuff and most of that is older, dated equipment. I've seen (and engaged) it as well.

Russian troops, though not trained to our standard, are still pretty well trained.

And that's the problem we face today. Europe is all but undefended. And it would take one of the largest logistical undertakings in history, taking probably months, for us to get a force into Europe of sufficient size to stem an invasion. By the time we got there with enough of a force to do really anything it would already be over.

The war games predicted that they could take the Baltic states. Are you conceding all of Europe now?

I'd guess they could make it to at least central Germany before a solid defensive line could be established. You've got to take two things into account.

1. The lack of forces in Europe
2. The logistics of moving two or three corps from the US to Europe.

I agree. The countries of Europe should build their own forces up to defend their own homes.

Europe is already being invaded and doesn't see fit to preserve itself. Russia is the least of it's problems.
