This. Bacteria is like the deep state.

Cephalopods have been around a lot longer than primates or I'm pretty sure even mammals. They had their chance. If they were going to take it then it would have happened already.

I hate it when people don't read the instructions.

Insects. The only think keeping them small now is a lack of lungs

That and gravity, insects have exoskeletons can only get so big with the Earth's gravity.

What?

"If not for primates, what creature would have dominated the planet?"

Cephalopods existed for hundreds of millions of year "if not for primates" and they were never close to having dominated the planet. I hate when people are too stupid to understand the premise of their own question.

You have no idea what even constitutes "close" so I'm not sure what slam dunk point you think you've made here. Still no suggestion of your own, though, so no ticket to Imaginationland for you, I'm afraid.

Kinda goes against 'dominating the planet' if the species has to puss out and leave.

It's not about pussing out. It's about expanding beyond the confines of this world and its limited existence. Who knows? Maybe they have some alternate route to this state, after we've all killed each other.

As many others have said, Primates do not dominate the planet. Sure we look like the big man on campus, but we're late to the party, and will most likely be long gone while other species continue to thrive like hey have for millions of years.

How could any other species evolve when we're the ones in God's image? Jesus don't look like no octopus to me

Many scientists believe octopuses are alien species that somehow made it to earth.

No shite.

Most likely not 100% alien, but another genetic experiment of the Anunnaki scientists. Just like we are.

For a great take on an alternative evolutionary pathway, read "A Wonderful Life" by Stephen Jay Gould.

Dinosaurs. Take out the massive impact 65 million years ago, this planet would be ruled by self-aware reptiles.
