I would say my wife and I pretty much buy 98% of things for our family online. I'm not talking about food but shoes, shirts, pants, and most clothing items all are bought online.

I went to two wal marts today. It was fricking shitty.

It's not an overnight phenomenon, but with every recession mall vacancy rates increase and do not return to previous levels once recession ends. That coupled with population growth and the need for fewer malls to satisfy demand of that growth shows malls are in decline

I agree somewhat with your analysis, but same could be said 15 years ago. I recall people saying by 2010 malls won't exist and everything would be an online shopping purchase.

I'm in Overland Park Kansas right now for work and the fricking malls are slam packed.
So no, it's not just LA.

Media sensationalism. Change occurs slow. That said I've spent $119 dollars this year in a mall and bought every Xmas gift minus stocking stuffers online.

Not all malls are dying. Go to Lakeside on a tuesday morning and explain to me why there are so many damn people there.
I think there must be a hidden underground city beneath Lakeside. No other explanation.

This. Malls are packed this weekend because of those that wait until the last minute to shop for gifts.
