If I were to buy a metal detector, how quickly do I start wearing socks with sandals?

Yea cheap ones.
I bought one for my 5 year old nephew for his birthday because they go camping a lot and I enjoyed it as much as he did and now I want one.

I've known several folks who do it. It can be a fun hobby, but sort of expensive to get into seriously.
These days, it has become harder and harder to obtain permission to get onto any private land. Alot of the public places have been picked over numerous times.

I think getting a metal detector or one of those big arse fishing magnets would be a fun hobby.

Yea that seems logical. I just want it to get out of the house more with the wife and dogs. I'm not looking to discover buried pirate gold that people swear is in Lake Charles.

It is a great hobby for that. I enjoy walking river and creek banks. I've thought about bringing a metal detector along, but have just never made the purchase.

Minerals in bricks. You can get detectors for coins, jewelry, etc or some that do relics. Civil war hunters in fields are using relic detectors for example.

The indigenous people here were stone age, no metal working, especially no precious metals. It's not like you're gonna be at me-maw's and run across Aztec gold. In Europe, sure. They're still finding caches of Roman coins even today.

Is it like some sort of ground penetrating radar in that case? Rather than a metal detector?
