If your child is white, don't bother.

Edited to add: Maybe if a girl.

Lol. No. I know plenty of people with trade skills. None of them are close to 6 figures.

The average salary for welders is fricking 36k

It’s about location. In Louisiana, you can easily make 6 figures welding if you’re willing to work enough overtime.

I, myself, am a 40/hr a week kind of guy. I work in a refinery and I’ve used my paper degree exactly 0 times.

Would it help if I start donating a few grand a year to the University now?

1) They don't need your money....

2) Best way to get in now is to have the child identify as a non binary gender neutral person of color whose pronouns are zie, zir, zirs and zirself.

If your kid ends up being as dumb as a dead flea, all of that donating isn't going to help.

Yeah, the Liberal Hell Hole of the world, sure

This is what modern conservatism has become. The most prestigious, well funded university in the world = "Liberal Hell Hole of the World." Define anti-intellectualism. I guess in a world where George Bush becomes viewed as a liberal pussy by the right this makes sense.

Of all the people I know that went to Harvard, neither of them sent checks before hand. Maybe tell your kid to study and be diverse.

The number one thing your kids can do is accomplish stuff. Like go out. Be resourceful. Get unique experiences that set you apart from all the other smart people applying. Create a business, create a charity, organize an event for your city, etc

I always love reading the opinions from people who have nothing to do with Harvard.

Full scholarship

Common myth, Harvard does not offer any scholarships based on academics, or cultural/racial characteristic. Like most of the other Ivy Leagues you have to apply and be accepted, then you will be provided with aid based solely on your financial need. They have no need to offer any financial incentive to attract highly qualified applicants.

Tomorrow, heading to Boston for parent weekend. Never donated to the school before we got accepted. Financial aid is solely based off the parents financials.

If your child is fortunate to get into an Ivy League school do not let them pass it up. Connections, connections, connections.
