If Art Bell were alive and at peak performance today in 2023

with the social media aspartates available to him, he would be bar none the #1 Pod caster in history. Hell a lot of podcasters today aren't even in his ball park and all he had was AM radio to work with.
For those of us who experienced his mastery of the skills of interviewer and host of generally all things weird live in the 90's on Coast to Coast and a little later with Dreamland, we were truly blessed by greatness. .

He was talking about "the quickening" in the late 90s. I can't imagine what he'd think of the last few years.

I don’t know if he would fully embrace the podcast format. Art relied heavily on callers to drive his show. Even with some truly wonderful guests he always included the audience to be part of his programs. Some of his open lines shows were epic.

Is Jimmy Church the new Art Bell? Who is the go to for this kind of discussion now?
Posted on 5/30/23 at 12:05 pm to lsu13lsu
I think Jimmy Church is probably the go to because of all the content he puts out on a consistent basis.

His schtick got lame pretty quickly. There just isn't that much credible weird stuff to talk about.

If he were alive and at his peak of popularity he would have been killed by the Government/democrats

He would dwell well in the post truth world

This is wrong. Rush Limbaugh couldn’t beat him in terms of listeners for many years and Art broadcasted in the middle of the night.
Art is in the radio HOF for a reason.

He did a short lived Sirius XM show called Dark Matter and canceled it in part because someone was shooting at his property in Pahrump, NV.

Dark matter was great. I bought XM specifically for that

I know he was popular. I meant for me personally. I was fascinated by Richard Hoagland until he started talking about pillars on the moon.
Then one his guests started talking about a new particle discovered, the “bigon”, which was an april fools joke in discover magazine. The show lost all appeal for me after that

I'm pretty sure he could pull it off.
Art was unique in understanding the audience has a lot of interesting things to say.
Podcasters and vloggers today think it's all about them and want it to be. Art was a master at sliding subtly into the background and gently guiding his callers through the show.
Art was cutting edge in the mid 90's and I'm 100% certain he would be today.

He could probably pull off a live stream that then came out the next day as a podcast.

One of the greatest broadcasters to ever live.

Art didn’t believe all of his guests. He was a master at stringing them along in order to get them to say even more ridiculous shite
I still listen to some of his older shows and they hold up extremely well. The news segments he would do back in 1998 almost sound like they’re from today.

Art wouldn’t bother with social media. Too old school.
Actually I think what separated Art from George Noory and others is he really believed his guests most of the time. There were some nutjobs but he would dive deeper into the rabbit hole than other hosts.
A uniquely American legend.

That Heaven's Gate cult was all in on Art and the Hale-Bopp comet show that Art did.
Funny thing is, Art knew it was all bullshite.
