I once called my boss and told him I would not be in that day because I was "under the weather". The next day my co-worker came over and said the boss asked her what that meant.

To my experience:
Dead ringer.
Long in the tooth.
During my high schools days I called a left handed person "southpaw" and they said they'd never heard the phrase.

For years my Mom, and now me, have referred to a lot of something as "scads". We made scads of rice for the gumbo. I said it to a co-worker the other day about his industrial sized bucket of peanut M&Ms and he looked at me like I was speaking Mandarin Chinese. After looking it up on Dictionary.com, scads means a large quantity of something.
