Incorrect, I believe you are conflating programming languages with people. Undeniably, a human can act randomly.

Reminds me a lot of Ted Bundy's sorority house attack in 1978. He killed 2 and wounded 2 more before any other coeds in the house were aware of it. He would have probably killed more, but a car pulled up and scared him away.
Are the Cops still sticking to the "targeted attack" theory? If so, I wonder WTF makes them think this. Did the killer leave a note or something?
BTW, I think the roommates are innocent. As the Bundy case proves, a killer can kill people in a house without alerting others. Especially when people are asleep.

Interesting theory from Reddit
I think the bedroom doors were locked after murders. Ladder seen outside the house was used by friends in the morning to see into bedroom from ledge bc they couldn’t get a response from X and E by knocking on the door or phone. They look through window see two people unresponsive on ground or bed and make the 911 call. Police break down doors discover scene.

Heard there is a car in the parking lot they are searching. Has been there a week.
——
Also, I think I figured out a plausible reason for why there were guests in the house that morning and why the phone call to 911 was for an unconscious person. Usually in college after a big night out, you are just laying around in bed. Do you have? Would people like to call a morning dBrief. In college luckily we all lived in the same apartment, but they probably called some friends over there hung out with last night. You kind of just sit around all hung over and talk about what happened last night. Then they were probably like why are so and so upstairs not moving around and making noise and being awake. Probably went to go knock on their bedroom door and could for some reason till they were inside but not awake. And decided to call 911.

That seems like a fair theory. The doors being locked explains the delay in the discovery of the bodies. And having to look through the window and not getting the best look at all the blood, but perhaps seeing a body lying on the floor or in otherwise unusual position, explains why the 911 call was for an “unconscious” person.

Nearby resident’s dog was skinned shortly before University of Idaho murders
A couple’s dog was killed and skinned just three miles away from where the four University of Idaho students were brutally slaughtered in their home, leading locals to fear a connection between the two attacks.
Buddy, a 12-year-old mini Australian shepherd belonging to Pam and Jim Colbert, was left with fur only on his legs and face when he was killed after they let him out of their Moscow home on Oct. 21, the Daily Mail reported.
“It was like a deer that someone had hunted,” Pam, 78, told the news outlet. “They cut him around the neck and just skinned him. His little legs had fur and his little face had fur, but the rest of him was just skinned,” she said.
“The other side of him was as though they had filleted him like they were about to eat him. It was terrible, unbelievable,” Pam told the Daily Mail. “They cut him like you filet a fish. We found his collar, but we didn’t find the pelt.”

The University of Idaho student body, to their parents, right now:

Is this even a question?
If you are sleeping after you have been drinking that night and someone sticks a knife in your chest you aren’t screaming. You are going to be in such shock you wouldn’t even know what’s happening before you died.
This definitely reeks of a sick frick serial killer

Well this doesn’t sound like a positive development for the Moscow community. This might push people over the state line to Pullman which is like the Baton Rouge of Washington State.

Also, screams don’t transmit down stairs as efficiently as you would think. I tested it out this weekend at my parents’ house because my mom expressed skepticism about the girls being unable to hear screams. I went upstairs and screamed at the top of my lungs and my mom couldn’t hear a thing.
(I hope my comments on the last page aren’t construed to actually re-open doubt about the girls’ innocence. I still absolutely think they’re innocent. I just thought the details of the 911 call were peculiar and worth discussing.)

The police are being pretty secretive about the 911 call.
At first they wouldn't say who made it. Then they say it was made from one of the roommates phones, but won't say who's. Then they say there were more than just the roommates there when the call was made and they arrive. But they still won't say who made the call or release it...

I think people are over analyzing the 911 call.
When does anyone wake up before 10am on Sunday in college anyway? Even if you're sober.
You're definitely chilling in your room until noon most days, especially if you're hung over.
And as others have said, you're not going to barge into someones room and mess with them, especially the rooms on the third floor.
The basement floor is half underground. Chances of hearing anything, especially if they had also been drinking are extremely low.
3-4am is when you're completely passed out, even when not drinking.

I don't think the time they called was weird for college kids. But the cops are definitely trying to keep something about the call from the public for the time being.

Hopefully just trying to protect their identity.

It was just a silly experiment. People like my mom are always going on about what I call “armchair physics.” They think stuff like a bowling ball should drop faster than a golf ball or you should be able to hear a scream anywhere in a house. Basically, they base everything on intuition rather than empirical data.
But when you actually test it, it turns out the world doesn’t behave like you think it would.

Bowling balls do fall faster than feathers in typical settings.
