That band West of Fort Lauderdale is nasty. It had three TDSs at the same time, all lined up. One wasn't warned.

9 confirmed tornadoes already. Some hurricanes produce a lot of tornadoes. Some don't. Looks like a tornado producer.

You need to keep your alerts on your phone or have a weather radio handy. Ian is an overachiever for tornadoes by every metric. The threat will continue through the night and into tomorrow with any bands you get.

The dry air is finally starting to impact Ian, but maybe a little too late? I still think we'll see some weakening, but to what degree?

Eric Webb

SWly wind shear is noticeably starting to pinch onto #Ian's upper lvl outflow tonight. Unfortunately, #Ian is too strong/inertially stable to be adversely affected by this shear right away as most TCs normally would, delaying some would-be weakening before landfall in SW Florida

Pulling some soundings it is pretty clear why. The area is primed for it.

I’m (poorly) tracking things on RadarScope while listening to updates. I can see out into the everglades from the back porch during daylight. Freaky “seeing” all of this activity out there in pitch black.

Checking in from Bradenton. Light rain mostly since yesterday afternoon. No strong winds yet. We will be just north and west of the eye according to the latest south forecast

Back to sleep while we can. Tomorrow is going to be a full day

Lanier get some sleep the OT Weather Team got this. Turn vibrate on your phone if you hear or feel a buzzing then grab the Fam, jump in a closet, and log back into TD because sh*t is getting real.

Tampa will avoid the really bad storm surge, however, Tampa will still have rough weather, including extreme rainfall totals.

South Tampa floods with May showers.

That areas about to get swamped.

Florida baws (and slag), get some sleep. Long day ahead.

Deep convection wrapped around the center. Closed off that eyewall on radar last I saw. Eye should start clearing in the next hour or two, unless it gets another kiss of dry air.

Let’s hope that dry air puts a big ole French kiss on Mr. Ian and he peters out to CAT 1 coming onshore

Why did I feel like there needs to be a pennywise coming out that picture you just posted?

We allegedly had another tornado to the east of my town this time about 30 mins ago. It’s like tornado alley tonight
