Thanks to your generous support this week, tropicaltidbits.com is being migrated to an upgraded webserver!
This migration will take a few hours. If you see a welcome message on the model page, you're on the new one! Let me know if you encounter problems. It should be faster

Are you people just gonna let a dude from Montana make the rules?

Add to this it could be a weakened cat 1 or 2 it’s pretty stupid to suggest a possible mandatory evacuation of Destin.
It’s not an outlier according to GFS which had it as a direct hit this morning.
And if this heads towards the northern gulf coast these models have it as a strong 3 or 4 until just before landfall when it would get crushed with sheer, meaning the potential storm surge would be far greater than a typical cat 1/2.
If this is sitting off 30A/Destin as a cat 3/4 within 36 hours of landfall I’d bet a nice bottle of bourbon the beach and bay front houses are mandatory evac.

Just checked and it's definitely faster for me now.

How is there a sticky thread for this thing not hitting Tampa.
I have no clue what the rules are anymore.

There is not a single public official suggesting anyone leave. The locals I know don’t expect anything and are not leaving for anything 2 and under. The renters that just got here yesterday are from TX and GA and asked my opinion. I told them water would most likely be closed from Tue/Wed on but if it’s the big bend area there is no reason to leave or panic.
For the record I agree completely that if it hits the NHC track Destin is fine, my point is that they are just splitting the difference between the two models that aren’t aligned and if the western GFS model starts looking like the winner Walton/Okaloosa/Bay county will 100% be closed so they don’t have to deal with stranded tourists as they unsort everything.

Euro has it nailed….non stop train to Tampa

St George Island is fooked. We rented a house there for a week. Nice little, quiet island. Cheap houses are now mid 5's. beachfront is 1 million plus. FL had a shitload of Insurance companies bail too. The fallout from this 'cane may be far-reaching.

I don’t disagree with that, but we are probably two days away from that even being a consideration.

The Florida insurance situation is basically Citizens only if you are close to the coast.

I don't know that yet, but it's definitely been the most consistent. Incredibly consistent in the last few days.

Not really. In Miramar I’m directly across the road from the beachfront homes. My homeowners is equivalent to my Louisiana rate and my flood is actually cheaper. The home we just purchased south of Tampa is the same homeowners rate but flood is higher.
I’ve had more issues in Louisiana regarding insurance than in Florida and we have been buying, selling and renting in Florida since 2000.

I wasn’t aware this was the case. Not surprised, just didn’t know it. I thought we were the only ones totally fricked with our insurance situation
