Grew up with hurricanes in NOLA
Now live in North Texas - the land of tornadoes and wildfires
The last thing I wish to deal with again is a wildfire

You can prevent a firestorm by properly culling the brush. You can’t avoid a hurricane.

What does it matter if you lose everything in a hurricane or a wildfire?

Fires and earthquakes are much worse
Floods suck pretty bad though

ou can hurricane-proof a house to a degree and the techniques and materials to do so are getting better yearly.
I am a coastal builder, not an engineer, and I am 100% confident I could build a Cat 4 hurricane proof home directly on the beach, especially if I didnt have to follow FEMA's "design to fail" construction techniques below base flood elevation. It would be somewhat impractical, and 40-50% more costly than a traditional beach home (which are very well built these days), but I would remain in the home for the duration of all but the very worst storms.
Other than an underground bunker or concrete, window less structure, there is nothing wildfire proof, and even then, you are evacuating and will have significant smoke damage. With a hurricane, I could have a generator running throughout the event.

Imagine instead of banning forest cleanup and ensuring ample water supply your gov banned hurricane proofing and made sure there werent enough linemen to respond to outages.
Now which scares you more?

Who wouldn't. Wildfires are not only more terrifying, you're going to die in horrible way.

I kinda feel lucky with hurricanes being my only real threat.
No snowstorms or lethal cold snaps, no earthquakes, no wedge tornadoes, and no fires.
