Battery fatigue will go away, based on what, hopes and unicorn farts?
My hope is that the fear about this goes away the same way all mythologies do.
I feel like in conversations like this, people latch onto “8 years”, forget how batteries work and imagine that they just up and die on day 2,922 of ownership for “reasons”.
Everyone has a smartphone, right? Lots of them are 3 years old or older, right? Those phones (on average) were typically rated to get 500-700 cycle counts out of their batteries and they almost always go beyond that. We know this because people are not taking iPhone 13s in large numbers back to Apple to have batteries replaced.
And yes, a car battery is a little more complicated than that (you need thermal management, more components, etc) but conceptually it’s the same. You mentioned unicorn farts…well, the warranty expiring isn’t the bat signal for magical goblins to take up residence in your Tesla battery pack either.

I'll bet that battery prices per watt-hour will be cheaper in 8 years.
I'll bet that any given Tesla battery will *not* require replacement in 8 years.
I'll even bet that the per-mile fuel/electricity cost will be even more in favor of EVs in 8 years.
How? Did we already ink a trade agreement and mining contracts with Greenland? Battery fatigue will go away, based on what, hopes and unicorn farts? And your third statement is based on AI sucking up increasing amounts of power and all those nuke permits we started fast tracking a week ago?
Would you or Darth like to take any of the bets or not?

Sure. As long as you agree that any subsidies applied to energy generation (looking at you "renewables") and storage are not counted in the electricity cost calculation. If I'm not dead, you'll get your six pack of craft beer.

Alright, well you go ahead and add those up and don't forget the O&G subsidies.

I was thinking something more on par with the cost of a battery replacement.

You can get a 1.5 yr old Rivian that sold for 90K new for like 50K.
True, but why catch a falling knife? That car could easily be worth much lower than $50k in a few more years if battery tech sees a big improvement.

Costs add up to more, and insurance as well.

$20K for batteries at 8 years. Plan ahead.
Peanuts!

Sorry, but I don't believe this for one second.
It seems like Rav4, CRV, Accord, Camry, Civic, Corolla would be the lowest cost to own when you factor in all items including tires, insurance and resale value.
Also, if you own an EV, do not park it in your garage or close to your house.

They have techs who have figured out how to replace bad cells and not just the entire pack.

There are millions of Teslas parked in garages right now.
