Robert Putnam, Bowling Alone.

He’s a Harvard professor, and Jewish.

Maine for me will always be the place I knew in the 90s. I’ve visited a few times over the last few years for business, and you do see the changes. There’s more poverty. Portland’s a lot dirtier. There’s a massive homeless camp across from the post office now.

I don’t think the interior will change, but the population shift on the coast is certainly changing the state. I worry that Massachusetts will eventually eat it up. And you won’t have Mainers south of Portland anymore.

Forced or orchestrated diversity, for the sake of diversity, is bad.

Naturally occurring diversity can be good.

A LOT of us are scared of places with too many white people,

They tend to get looney over time. Mobs of white people turn on each other.

There's more diversity among white folks than between races. I have a lot more in common with black people than I do many urban whites.

You should be cautious around those northeastern liberals. They’re the real racists.

Where do you think the Acadians that didn't travel across the country ended up?

My first trip to Maine included dinner outdoors with a live Cajun Band and sitting a table over from a couple from Lafayette, LA.

But why must it even be a choice between a horde of impoverished third worlders or ghetto trash? Why can’t a nice place just be left alone?

Oh frick off with your guilt ridden bullshite. You are free to live in any “diverse” place you want. Maybe at some point you’ll notice that only western countries are self-obligated to diversify. Diversity is so great for the world that nowhere else in the world is required to do it.

Good thread. A good portion of my family live around Bethel Maine. They relocated there in the 90's. Our family down here is spread through Pineville, Kolin and Marksville. It's incredible up there and I'm going up there with the wife(no pics) in mid August. If you go to the coast it's crazy how many crab boils are made with Zatarains now. They try and come down for at least 2 big LSU games. If you see a group tailgating with LSU and Maine flags, that's probably us. My uncle brings a bunch fish and seafood from up there. He has to freeze it of course, so it's not quite the same. But if you see us stop and say hi. My Aunt is real estate agent up there. She'll probably try and sell you a summer home or condo, you're fore warned.

I made a thread about Maine roughly 3 weeks ago. Specifically Camden ME.

Really nice place, and had the same observations about the demographics.

I have lots of family in Maine, generally about 2 hours north of where OP went. It's a great place. Lots of wilderness. Not at all like the Downeast part.

I was in Maine last week. Fantastic place and the people are cool. While I was there it dawned on me why so many Northeastern people are Black Lives Matters Liberals. There are no black people there. Move those people to Rayville LA, give them a year or two, and I bet their world view changes dramatically.

Lived and worked in NH in 90s and spent some time in Maine. The vast majority of western and northern Maine is (or was) privately held land owned by logging companies. There were some really strange small communities with too much drinking and too much inbreeding going on. I doubt it has changed that much.

Who would have thought that the OT lounge would become the Maine board on TD.

Realizing there are certain segments of our population that are responsible for the vast majority of crime and disruption and choosing not to be near them is not being close minded
