Cut grass as a side job, you got to take that job.

Take the job, sneak out a Babe Ruth jersey, sell it on ebay. Problem solved.

I’d rent a basement or cheap room in someone’s house. Then would be searching for jobs the whole time while having that cool spot on my resume.

$40k is less than starting wage for immigrant manual labor currently.

I read that book years ago.
I'm a Librarian at a place that fits me like a glove. I took an initial pay cut to come here 15 years ago. It has worked out for me, and is one of the best parts of my life. I used to be a baseball maven until Manfred started all his shite tinkering with the rules and creating fake scenarios.
If I were single AND with few ties I'd jump on it. I think you might be able to make upstate New York work. Best to you.

would have to live in Utica or Syracuse to make it work
That is a long commute to the middle of nowhere your gas bill is going to be huge.

I do know that Velvet Underground drummer Maureen Tucker called it the "Hall of Lame". Does that qualify as a rejection?
Ironically their only really good song was rock and roll.

Sounds like a cool job to do after you retire and looking for a fun hobby that pays for itself.
That's exactly what this is - a job for early retirees or trust fund babies that love baseball, the quaint life and don't like sitting around with nothing to do.
If your trying to build a real career and support yourself, stay away and get your baseball fix in your free time.

I have family that lives in Cooperstown. It is a low cost area to live in. There are a lot of big old houses in the area where people rent out an apartment. Winters are tuff there and long. You can probably make some extra cash doing do something on the side during the tourist season.

100% this. and I absolutely love Cooperstown. if you were retired with nothing to worry about, you go take the job, go catch games in the summer at Dreams or All star village or go take a ride on the lake but overall if you didnt have another income stream...it would be miserable. and upstate NY is miserable period mid oct until mid march at least.
you also can not live hour or 90min away on 40k like the OP suggested.
seriously...nothing about the OPs plan makes sense.

the sales world is littered with jobs like this that are struggling to replace people that are getting into their 70s
Job requires industry specific sales for 5 years, 10 years sales experience. Offer is 60k with potential to make 80
then they wonder why no one is jumping on it and they can't promote from within because their hands are either Spanish speaking or making too much turning wrenches

My problem is the salary they offered was too low. My offer was between 60K and 70K - and they want me to start on a salary of 40K. It’s a full time job within their research and library center. What would you guys do?
You can’t really live on $40k in this economy if it’s your primary source of income, so obviously I’d have to turn it down.
But I really hate this for you. It’s a dream job.

The people and connections you could and will make. If ya play your cards right it could turn into something much bigger. Ypu say 60k to 70k then back down to 40k? Why

Both these salaries will have you drowning. But the lower one might get you a life vest from the government.

Well lets see her work. Post some pictures of her cakes. You make can sell enough on here to make it work. Tigerdroppings has done some amazing shite over the years.

Finger lakes area is pretty cool. Looks like old quaint small town America of the Northeast. And I actually met some cool locals that were fun to talk to while I was up there.
That definitely doesn't happen much in the more populated areas. More likely to get in a fight there. Yanks in the populated areas are often loud, rude, and opinionated. I am a proud Southerner, opinionated, and have no filter at all. It can definitely get me in trouble up there and has.

I absolutely loved our time in cooperstown. But to be fair...that area depends a shite ton on tourism from the Baseball HOF, The Cooperstown Dreams Park Tournaments, and the Cooperstown All Star Village Tournaments so they tend to be extra friendly.
