I was 100% sure my wife was going to say "yes" when I proposed

The proposal thread got me thinking about those that don't go so well and the girl says "no". What are those guys thinking? Have they not had the marriage talk before hand? I would have never gone out and bought a ring to propose with if I wasn't 100% sure the answer would be "yes". I mean, are these guys just going out on a limb thinking they're going to surprise their girl with a proposal? I just can't imagine a couple having the marriage talk together, both agreeing that they want to marry each other, and then her turning down the proposal. I never really feel bad for guys who get told "no" because I have to believe he rushed into that crap without knowing how the girl feels.

sorry for the public humiliation bro

Desperate dudes.
It’s wrong to put a girl on the spot like that.
A proposal should be a pleasant surprising formality.

I've been married for 8 years. Happily married, too.

You good OP? Sounds like you might be a little insecure about getting turned down a time or two yourself

After grabbing the ring first.

I asked my ex wife right after fricking and I was still I her. Had the ring under the bed and pulled grabbed it and asked her and she said yes. 100% true story too

I can tell you a lot of things beforehand
But when the money (ring) is on the table it’s still a crap shoot

We never had the marriage talk with each other per se, but I was 100%. We had been together for a few years, lived together for about 2 and had just planned a relocation together. I knew where her head was at, and she now says she had a pretty good feeling it was coming.

It's one of the reasons you ask the father first.

It's amazing to me when I hear about people who are several years into a relationship and having fights over whether or not one of them wants marriage, kids, religion, etc.
What the hell have these people been talking about for the last several years?

Considering my wife told me it was about time I proposed to her, I felt pretty confident in the answer.

I think in these cases, it is usually that one person doesn't want it and the other doesn't have the guts to break it off over such a dealbreaker. They convince themselves the person will change their mind.

There are honestly a decent amount of good dudes in good relationships that get turned down.
Why you ask? Because women are nuts. They dont really have a clue what they want.

Indeed.
I have no fricking clue how you can propose to a girl without being 100% sure that she has already made her intentions clear to marry you.
A proposal isn't supposed to be suspenseful.

Yeah that is really shocking. Also finances. Its shocking to me that couples arent more aware of each other's financial behaviors prior to marriage.
