I go to Walmarks about twice a month for things like toiletries and house goods that are cheap. For the longest time, I'd just go to the liquor section and check out since my purchase usually only included 2-5 items. The thought of entering their regular checkout lines frighted me. Too many customers on food stamps, writing checks, etc...

Lately, I've noticed they have self check out stations. They seem to be working smoothly, since you can only pay with card or cash.

If people are too stupid to use the machines, are on govt assistance or have huge baskets, they have to get in the few regular lanes which remain open. I applaud this strategy by Walmart. Let the less desirables wait, while I can get in and out.

It's cool that you can shop for groceries and clothes while getting your oil checked. All under the same roof and just 1 check out.

This doesn't stop them trying, based on my few observations at our newest Walmark...

The WM gift card was the sign that WM had already check-mated the retail world. And the consumer.

They get their money up front, and there's a great chance the average Joe won't use all the amount they put on the card.

The WalMarks by me, is full of people trying to check out 2 cart fulls of groceries using the self-checkout, the self-checkout machines constantly break because people do stupid crap to them, etc.

All of this could be avoided if the one employee monitoring the 6-8 machines actually gave a crap.

Food stamps aren't what you think they are. That is more than likely wic and most people who are on "food stamps" you'd never know because they use ebt cards.

The new scan and go registers are nicer than the older self checkouts.

The new scan and go checkouts with the theft gates are going to really piss off people lol

The neighborhood walmark on Lee and Highland is probably the worst one I've ever been to.

They have five self checkouts, but I've never seen all of them operational at the same time. Most of the time only two or three are working.

Then they have like 10 regular checkouts, but I've only seen more than two open a handful of times. It's a busy store so the lines are always freakishly fricking long because of this.

Images like that are the reason why I'm scared of buying produce at Wal-Mart

I never use self checkout. If they want me to pretty much work for them for free then I want to take a few items home for free.

The one I use is the same. And every fricking machine does that "unknown item in bagging area crap"
