re: I think this dashcam video pretty much sums up driving in Baton Rouge

yep, not the suv fault at all he was merging slowly being careful and this idiot was flying down the turn lane going too fast but still had more then enough time to stop but was most likely playing with his stupid camera instead of paying attention to driving.
The Lexus driver will pay the claim. I had this same thing happen to me. The Lexus was cutting over a lane between two cars without having proper line of sight. Yes the guy driving a little fast but not over the speed limit

I had a truck totaled in a similar fashion on Perkins. Of course it was a chick who just never imagined she should maybe look to see if anyone is coming before darting across the turning lane. Unlike this video I couldn't avoid it.

While the guy in the lexus is an idiot, the moron with the dash cam wasn't paying attention either or he would have avoided hitting the lexus.

I saw the Lexus long before the wreck. I would have avoided it.
My thought too. The guy driving the honda must have been looking for an accident.

You can be speeding while under the speed limit, it depends on conditions (weather, traffic, pedestrians).

The Lexus came out of a parking lot and crossed three lanes cutting people off. Lexus was entering its 4th lane when it got popped. It had no right of way except for maybe the 1st lane coming out of the parking lot.
All on the Lexus.
ETA: The video does make it look like the turning lane driver had a definite opportunity to see the Lexus coming. Still on the Lexus, though. It looked like other vehicles in the 2nd and third lane crossed had to break for the Lexus as it just pushed on through before getting smacked.

Almost begs a NSFW tag.
The audio of that clip sounds like what I'd conjecture the A&M Yell Leaders "try outs" sound like.
And that's not (for me) a pleasant thought.

Dash cam dude should have slowed down

Lexus is at fault (and a moron) but the guy in the crap car clearly doesn't know how to drive defensively. You could see that coming a mile away. He also was going a bit too fast in the open lane. I try to go a little slower for the exact reason that was saw happen in that video. He easily could have gotten in the far left lane is he'd been paying attention.

Lexus comes out of the parking lot into lane 1 clean. It enters the second lane with no right of way and a white car has to brake at least a little hard for it. Red Jeep in lane 3 sees what the Lexus is doing and brakes creating a gap between it and the yellow van. The Lexus pushes through that gap still going 90 degrees across lanes and enters the 4th lane in front of the driver that hit it.
Also, the Lexus appeared to be planning on heading left out of the parking lot after crossing at 90 degrees 5 lanes of oncoming traffic.
Lexus driver is an idiot.

I've never seen so many people attempt to cross up to four lanes of busy traffic to turn left as I have in Baton Rouge.
I'll never understand how some people would rather risk their lives and the lives of others when they could just turn right, get to the nearest stoplight, then turn around.

I don't think they understand the concept of turning right and making a U turn. They'd rather fricking die than not make that left turn.

I'll add people that make U-turns on Siegen Lane to that too.

That guy has some shitty reaction time
Posted on 7/8/17 at 4:34 pm to RussianFromLSU
The OT is full of drivers who drive 1 mph under the speed limit in the left lane and find no fault with it because they are going the speed limit. You will find little sympathy/support here.
The person at fault is clearly the moron changing lanes without looking.

He does. I didn't want to spend the effort to post a screen shot of when he should seen it coming but he had plenty of lead time to brake or swerve into the turning lane to his left which was clearly available. He never hit the brakes or swerved and had lead time to do both.
I'd give him a break if the lane to his left was oncoming traffic and he decided to take the lesser of two evils but he had a clear lane to his left.
Lexus was in the wrong and asking for it but this guy's defensive skills are for shite.
