I've been doing this for the last 10 months due to our first child being born. It's unreal the amount of money I spent on stupid shite

It's amazing how much money gets spent on miscellaneous stuff if you start keeping track. After all of my normal monthly bills are paid, my family of 3 spends around $2,500/month on miscellaneous expenses - and this does not include major items. Money just disappears.

Advocating the undermining of our country's economy?

Sounds like libcuck stuff to me.

I live like this. Not interested in material things. More interested in music (which I get online for free), interesting movies/docs (which is I get on Netflix or library), books (from library), and being outside running or playing basketball which is also cheap. Seldomly eat out. Pretty much just buy the basics.

I don't drink alcohol and have actually never bought anything on Amazon

Paid off actually. Rotating 7% month to month for points.

Not sure where you're going with this. Do you get some kind of satisfaction out of seeing a larger number in your bank account? What are you eventually going to spend the money on, and would it not also be just a more expensive "stupid" thing? It doesn't seem like you were hurting your finances by spending, or at least aren't acting like it, so what's the goal here?

I removed my credit card from my default payment option on Amazon too keep my wife and I from impulse buying. Having to enter that card each time makes think if I really need the Vasquez action figure from Aliens or the Jeff Goldblum shower curtain.

I cut up the only debit card I had linking to my personal spending bank account. I get $50 a pay check deposited in there. I've been watching the balance grow monthly.

I'll order a new card when I figure out what I'm saving up for.

My point is, buying haf become a means of gratification. I liked getting home and seeing packages. Or walking into a liquor store and buying a luxury.

After a month of not doing it, I don't need the gratification.

Yes, I am seeing a larger amount in my account, but more importantly, that doesn't make me wanna buy something.

"Unnecessary" covers a lot of ground.

My ten (10) most recent purchases. With exception for the ear bud and keys, all of these were related to repairs of one form or another I made myself (thereby saving money):

• oil filter for my mower
• air filter for my mower
• oil for mower
• oil pan
• funnel
• water filter for refrigerator
• single ear bud (stereo to mono as damn cancer took the hearing in my left ear)
• golf cart rear view mirror
• golf car side mirrors
• golf cart keys

I paid for that Prime membership and damnit I gotta use it to see the value. Now if I could keep my wife off of there buying useless shite for the kids......LOL

I guess that's my question. What are you eventually going to do with the money? Would the gratification you get from what you buy later not just replace the gratification in question?

Dumping an extra 1400 bucks a month into my savings and paying off other debt?

I did the same thing. I tried to keep my spending down to $100/week excluding Mortgage/Utilities/Gasoline/etc.

It makes a huge difference

ETA: I deleted the Amazon shortcut from my browser. I found myself randomly clicking it throughout the day and buying something I didn't need
