I still cannot understand how people run out of gas at the very top of the new bridge.

Seriously. What did you think? You were going to coast to a gas station in Port Allen if you can just make it over the top?

Rant off.

It's cos when you're driving up to the top, all the gas slides to the back in the fuel tank.

I bet a quick google search of Louisiana’s education system ranking would help you understand it better.

That bridge is the Bermuda Triangle of traffic. Someone can drive from California with nary an issue but give them 1000 yards of straight bridge and they will Jack knife into a broken down bus load of nuns for no reason. It's frankly amazing.

Cause because of traffic you can’t go fast enough to get really good gas mileage.

Everybody knows you need to get up over 90 mph to maximize your mpgs

Everyone that is stuck should stop, get out of their vehicles, surround the vehicle, and throw it over the side into the river.

Resume journey. Penalty acceptable

And the stretch of I-10 from the Highland exit to the Dutchtown exit is the Twilight Zone. For some reason drivers just go ape shite crazy in that 5-6 mile run of interstate.

Tells so much about the mediocrity of this state. "The new bridge" is almost 50 years old!

The I-10 bridge will always be the "new bridge" because in our lifetime there will never be another bridge built.

We should rename it the Keith Richards Bridge.

He who underestimates the stupidity of their fellow man and the volume of such is bound to find themselves in constant bewilderment of how many morons there are in existence and the extent of their idiocy.

I’ve been getting to 100 mph so much lately I’ve had to start giving gas away to friends and family.

Because people think that a 'miles to empty' reading is magically 100% accurate.

Half a gallon in a 15 or 16 gallon tank is not very much (same as having an ounce of drink left in a 32 oz cup).

And the aforementioned incline of the bridge does make a difference if you run the tank down to that little amount of fuel left.

I knew a friend who ran out of gas a few years ago on the bridge, except he had made it over the very top. It's a pretty steep incline down, and despite his engine stalling, he coasted all the way down the bridge in neutral to the shell station right off the Port Allan exit.
