Your boss needs more of her own work to do.

when a boss starts asking for reports that is usually a signal of one of three things:

1. Your work performance is in question
2. Your team attitude (PC for early signs of insubordination) is not acceptable
3. Your boss's superior is placing constraints on them and it is rolling down hill

It sounds like there is a lot of heat to downsize her division and team. Sorry for your impending lay off .

Damn you’re always working and have to convince your boss you aren’t just chillin.

My boss assumes I’m always working and sometimes I’m just chillin.

Sucks for you dude.

ETA: mostly joking...I get all my work done at a high level

Productivity can be measured by output metrics or sales dollars.
Keep track of the 5 most important functions you do.
Keep the spreadsheet open.
Add 1 each event.

Work on resume at home.

Learn a new, marketable skill.

Poor performances create panic. Lots of reporting is a symptom.

You see bad managers behave different in bad times versus good. Good managers are consistent. The key to performance is killing it in good times, not merely surviving the bad

It hinders my actual work from getting done. I was far more productive when I didn't have to constantly update and build reports for her. I know she's been getting a lot of heat from her boss, but jeez I hate micromanagement. I also blame some of my colleagues for not producing results so I get punished doing busy work as well. df

Let me guess... your company currently has Deloitte or another Big-5 consulting firm in helping executive management determine what projects support the core business.

Here's where you come in, you are currently documenting how many fresh out of college dumbasses it will take to perform your job. They will quote the maximum headcount possible but keep it under your current salary and benefits package.

If you aren't laid off, you will absolutely get a new nifty title and convoluted, yet ambiguous, job description.

They will then get a multi year contract and the company's admin expenses will go through the roof. If your company survives, they will be calling many of the best workers to come back to work in a few years.

The last big corporation I worked for ended up going crazy with reporting requirements. It required daily entry of sales activities, twice weekly conference calls to review those entries, weekly “one on one” meetings to review activities, letters of concern meetings when activities weren’t entered. They didn’t care about the value of the sales call, they just wanted a sales call entered.

It got so bad that reps were honestly spending equal time selling and reporting and most of the good reps left the company.

It also takes what should be a good sales tool (like Sales Force) and turns it into repository of unusable bullshite because reps were more worried about meeting the reporting requirements and entering untrue activities just to hit the metric.
