Obviously. But you don't fight fire with fire. It's easy to talk your way out of a mistake when you know the truth is on your side.
But every single one of us has a breaking point on incompetence, even with cops. Hell, just watching this video, it could be understandable as to why Patrick's breaking point came a lot quicker than yours or mine may happen.

If Patrick would have complied, this shite would have been done under a minute. Patrick was stupid for not doing what they told him to do.

Christ. I remember when this country went to war with others that had this mentality. Show your papers, right?

Also, why only focus on Patrick and not the millions of different ways the cops fricked up?
It's always very telling when posters default to only pile on Patrick here, and nothing about the cops.

It's why cops act this way, because people keep their head down and allow cops to do whatever they want. Sure, it may make your life easier in that encounter, but it just allows cops to take things out further and further to absurd points like this incident.

The cop told him to "stand up and put your hands on the car." Stupid Patrick didn't do that.

NO. He obviously wants a police state.

That's ridiculous

So you have no duty to act polite to cops but they have a duty to be polite to you? lol. They don't have a duty to be polite, they have a duty to do their jobs under their guidelines. Patrick acted like an idiot. If Patrick would of diffused the situation himself nothing would of happened. Play stupid games win stupid prizes.
Yes, they have professional standards and obligations and expectations of their conduct.
I'll repeat again- these are trained professionals that have prepared for the situations they are walking into. If a guy asking why he's being arrested before submitting to being handcuffed is enough for them to escalate to the second highest level on the use of force continuum then they should be either back in training or fired. That they got this guy on an obstruction charge is completely insane.
They have signed up for a job with incredible responsibility. That comes with the expectation of acting better then the surprised, confused, angry, distrustful, and sometimes unintelligent people they encounter.

It's really fricked up but it's over fast if he just gets up, gets cuffed and they check his Id. Should he have to do that? No.

I really don't get it. So many posters on this board including myself are pro-individual freedom, pro-small government.
Except many seem to completely violate that with their totalitarian stance on policing. What the frick.

As a result of the police department’s mistake, Mumford could lose his job as a certified collision specialist. He may also be forced to drop out of college where he’s pursuing his associate’s degree, Claiborne said.
I hope he makes bank because of these POS cops

There was no justice to be served against Patrick, it's such a sham.

It's as simple as believing you should obey those in authority even when you think they are wrong.

For me it's being put in the cops shoes, Patrick could have had a gun under his seat, "I just got back from my probation officer" means "I'm not going back in"....I'd have a hard time not erroring in my own safety....me being safe is wrong?
In the plants we error on the side of being overzealous over Safety.....harness at 6ft?

These guys would beg to differ.
