I've come across these signs twice while traveling and didn't really know what to do.

Coming to a stop at an intersection.

Need to make a right turn.

Sign posted on light "right turn signal"

If light is red, can I turn right after stopping like a typical red light? Or is the sign to say that there is a special light to turn right so wait for it.

I'll hang up and take my ear beating off the air.

Do it. If you get pulled over, the answer is “no”.

Unless there is a sign that says No Right on Red, you can turn right after stopping.

I think this is correct.

but why put up a sign in the first place? I feel like its overexplaining shite. If there is a green arrow pointing right then that should be good enough.

We don't have sign explaining that green mean go and yellow means slow at every intersection.

You can turn right, but you do not have right of way.

It's so people know when the cross direction has a left turn signal.

So you can freely turn right without having to look at the crossing traffic.

I wish it was legal to turn left on red if no one is in sight. I still obey the laws though because I dont want a ticket

I understand thats what the light is for but why is the sign needed? A green arrow is all anyone should need.

If the arrow is not lit, how do you know there is a green arrow there?

(c) Except when a sign prohibits a turn, vehicular traffic facing any steady red signal may cautiously enter the intersection to turn right, or to turn left from a one-way street into a one-way street, after stopping as required by Subparagraph (a) or Subparagraph (b) of this Paragraph. Such vehicular traffic shall yield the right-of-way to pedestrians lawfully within an adjacent crosswalk and to other traffic lawfully using the intersection.

Well if the green isn't lit then its yellow or red so you need to come to a stop. Why do you need a sign telling you that eventually you'll see a green arrow?

Color blind people?

obviously traffic engineers know something I don't know.

You see these at intersections that have several lanes in each direction. It's to specify which lane that particular signal head is for. It can be visually confusing if there are 3 or 4 signal heads at a large intersection, so they will specify so it won't confuse drivers in the adjacent through lanes.

Yes... turn. It’s simply letting you know that there is an arrow that protects you when you turn. As long as there isn’t a (NO TURN ON RED) sign preventing you, please, in the name of all that is good and right, turn the damn car so the people behind you can get where they need to go with some reasonable amount of time.

Wait for the green light. No need to get in a hurry and potentially break rules. Your life is worth more than saving 2-3 minutes max.
