You can lock up your guns, but you need to lock up your ammo too.
A kid down the street from us used to cut the primer off of a shotgun shell, hold it with pliers, put a screwdriver against it and hit it with a hammer. One day a piece of the primer stuck in the palm of his hand.
My mom was a teacher, that didn't let us watch wrestling. Every Saturday morning we watched Mid-South Wrestling at their house.
Both there parents worked so in the summer there would be a pack of wild boys raising hell at their house. We'd light paper airplanes on fire and throw them across their living room. One day they caught the curtains on fire spraying Lysol into lit matches. It was a fun place to visit.

Growing up, dad didn’t lock any guns up. He did keep them out of reach of kids but we knew we better not mess with them.
Same here. My dad made it clear that his guns were not toys, and he ever caught me acting irresponsibly with them there would be big trouble. I did the same with my child and never hid or locked up my rifle. Both me and my dad kept the ammo separate, but like him, I focussed on educating and setting boundaries. When we went to my in-laws, there was a gun rack with several rifles in plain view, but none of the kids messed with them.
There was never a conversation like that. We just assumed that everyone had guns and dogs basically roamed free.

Some of those had to legitimately hurt… and for what, a minimum wage payday?

And that wasn’t even a Ford Pinto…..

Likewise, when I was a kid growing up my dad had guns and my grandparents did as well. I was told from the time I was little that guns aren’t toys and they aren’t to be touched. Never locked up and never touched.
When my son was 6 I gave him a .22 for his birthday. His mom (no pics) wasn’t real high on it and his grandma (again no pics) flipped out. I told them both he would be taught it’s not a toy. Today at 18 he knows firearms are tools and nothing more. It’s all in how you’re raised and how you teach your kids. No one ever asked us anything about this when he was a kid it’s just always the other parents have guns.

My response…you bet. Living room, bedrooms, and each bathroom has one in the top left drawer by sinks. Bathroom ones are secure in quick access mechanical boxes…so technically locked, I guess.

Let's just meet at the range. My PSA order should arrive in a few days, so we can get a lot of trigger time.
