A lot of great information here and direction to more research. I appreciate it. Just to be clear, I have worked out and run my entire life up until this year. I just had surgery on my ulnar nerve and am in a full arm brace for another month with 5 more months of physical therapy. I am also nursing a bum knee and foot that may or may not require surgery. So, excercise is not an option for me in the near term. Being this sedentary is obviously a big part of my cholesterol being shite, but without being able to excercise, it's going to be hard for me to lose weight.
A couple of questions:
1) Can you still eat quinoa on Keto/Paleo? I actually like it and was going to substitute most of my grains/carbs with it.
2) How do you consume red rice yeast? Is it a food?
3) Do green tea extract/garcinia cambogia supplements work for weight loss/appetite suppressant? I see it everywhere but wasn't sure if it was crap or not.
4) What acidity level does apple cider vinegar have to be? What doses are effective?
5) Are there benefits to coconut oil as a supplement? I know I have read somewhere where a tablespoon/day has some benefits.
6) What are the downsides of statins? Is it just making your liver work overtime? Because it would seem if you've got to take 10-15 supplements to have the same effect that would be more work for the liver as well.
7) I don't like oatmeal. Would a Kashi cereal(I like the toasted berry crisp) with Almond milk give the same result?

eat grapefruit. Get a new doctor. Immediately. A low dose of Pravastatin will cost 10 bucks at walmart.

"Cut out starch and sugar"
This is what hubby and I did over the past few years - well low carb actually. We lost 30+ lbs. and our blood work is perfect. Hubby sees a Cardiologist once a year (hereditary factors) and Doc thought hubby had been on a vegetarian diet as he was reviewing blood work. Doc was clearly disappointed when we told him - nope - low carb - plenty of meat!

Any starch or grain is bad for cholesterol. Rice, potato, breads, alcohol, sugar, etc.
Dietary cholesterol is not bad for your blood cholesterol. Meat, cheese, fats, etc do not cause high cholesterol.
No sugar, no grain!

Look up Whole 30 challenge. You have a scrambled direction right now and this will give you a path. If you stick to it you will improve your cholesterol very quickly

You really should look into a high fat diet. Not necessarily paleo per say. Also if you had surgery lately you might have inflammation which can cause high triglycerides and ldl.
Do you have a history of heart problems I. Your family? Lots of research points to no correlation between high cholesterol and heart problems.
I had high cholesterol and my doc said "you can fix this or I can give you a pill and fix it but it doesn't solve what's going on".
You really need to understand how Cholesterol In The body works and what causes it to rise. Cholesterol Clarity book should be your starting Point before you do anything. Educate. Educate. Educate.

My maternal grandfather had a few heart attacks between ages 75-90. That's it, though.

I had seen a couple of articles about this before going to the doctor. Brought it up to my doctor who is pretty young and keeps up with the new literature, and she said she gets in "arguments" with the cardiolost at her place over this. Still, she said too early to tell and there were other reasons you don't want your cholesterol high anyway.

Clean organic diet and start walking. No fast food, start eating healthy. That plus walking a mile or so a day will work.
My family has cholesterol issues and I know first hand from seeing them, this works.
