Akita. They are widely considered the most loyal breed of dog in the world. They become attached to one owner and will never fully trust another.

Hard to top a well bred GSD. Fantastic dogs, highly intelligent, problem solvers, great with kids, naturally suspicious of strangers. If you can handle the fur, they're the best all around mid/large sized dog breed - from a consistency standpoint.

Now, the "most" loyal dog is probably some mutt out there somewhere. But, you can't breed that into mutts. You can't count on it.

Akitas are gorgeous too. And I hear they do surprisingly well in the South. Is that true?

I second this. I got a black lab (male) last July and he is batshit crazy. There's not a mean bone in his body, he's just bouncing off the walls 24/7

That's how mine was. Within a week she would jump on my bed, get between me and my other dog, and knock her off the bed. Then put her head on me like, "Yeah, I got you bro."

She wouldn't let the other dog stand closer to me than her. Wasn't aggressive, just casually asserted her dominance over anything around me.

If you want them to be loyal, you need to be the only one feeding her.

In fact, every time the Saints or Tigers score a TD she has to give me a hug and a kiss. Funniest thing ever.

She is probably worried about the noises and movements you are making. Consider it her condolences. I realized that my dog always looked concerned when I was in the tub, because she hates being in the tub. I can see her sitting there like, "shite, he is so miserable. I wish there were something I can do. Ill just lay next to this tub and protect him until he is able to break free again."

Yeah, I had a Chihuahua/Manchester/Rat Terrier mix as a young kid.

She was a pack of 1 (plus me, mom and dad). The most fearless 12 pounds I've ever seen. She would have jumped a grizzly bear for me. She chased a roving Doberman completely out of our neighborhood, strolls back with a look that said, "Punk arse bitch better run."
